Yeah.... What he said. It's a preference thing. They are both machines that do the job. I am perfectly happy using a pc. and mine hardly ever crashes.

Oh if you install DarwinBSD with a Aqua GUI, you've got a mac on your pc.

Yeah, I had Desktop X briefly on Windows, and it was suckmendous, to say the least. OSX and Windows just don't work the same. That's all there is to it. Mind you, I did not just say one worked better than the other.

The main thing that killed PC's for me was the use of a school computer lab, during a time in which I didn't have a computer at home. The network administrator (Computer Teacher) decided he was gonna be a nice guy, and not lock down the network too much, so we could run Napster (at the time) and Kazaa, and whatever else we wanted. This turned out to be a huge mess, because within weeks of getting brand new computers, the network was alreadey riddled with viruses. There were extended server downtimes, during which, if I had a paper due, I was screwed.

Then, more often than not, whenever they did work enough to type on (Not even run photoshop on, just typing) they would always crash. During TYPING!. So, more often than not, I'd lose my paper. I know, I know, ctrl+S, whatever. When you get going on a paper, you don't think to do that, you're just writing.

So, to make a long story short, PC's weren't the root of some kind of greater evil. they just didn't help any when work needed to be done.

Yeah, BTW Gecko, getting relaible, objective, information from MACS SUCK.COM is like comparing CNN with The National Enquirer.

Wow, you must have had a really bad pc :s Thats too bad.
I guess everyone has different expierences with each. Some say XP is rock solid and great, some say no. Some say OSX is rock solid and the best, some say it crashes, and quite a bit.

And about the comparison of macsucks.com to a ragmag, remember on MIB? The most reliable information lol j/k :p But seriously, I think that comparison is a little out of porportion. Yes its obviously a compltetly biased site, and unobjective, but I still think the majority of the stuff it says it reliable, as it comes from outside sources often.

This is an old thread started by Gecko, I came looking for cuz I'm having the same problem.

So I deleted a few files and ran a few fixer programs, only to find at the end, I had a mere 8 megs of space left!!! I would delete stuff with no gain in space. I was just about at my wits end, and I was searching around on google to find some help. I came across some stuff that talked about the system restore feature. Well, I had thought about this, but I did turn it off a while back. But I read on anyways. So after reading I found the _restore folder. I had checked before, and it didn't seem to have that many files in it that took up much space. But I deleted it anyways. And BAM! 5 gigs of space is suddenly FREE!!

I was wondering if anyone out there can help me with this as I'm having the same problem. I need to do this quickly.

Do I delete the whole _restore folder or do I need to disable something.

Thanks in advance....cheers!

Yeah, I agree. I think that when designing on a mac, you try to kind of 'outdo' the designers of OS X, in a way.

Also, if nothing else, the fact that photoshop in windows doesn't run in a floating window, as it does on OS 9 & 10, I (note 'I') is annoying. I like it better because it seems not to be closed in as much
you can keep looking at your design, while choosing a song to play, IMing, or checking your e-mail. Yeah, I know, I know, you can on Windows too (kinda) but if nothing else, yeah, Windows is visually boring. I mean, what if there were a website that looked like windows? It'd suck. But all the pages that we think are really cool, are the ones with an interesting, or engaging or ultimately attractive design. And this is where OS X beats windows.

Note: I did not say that PC's suck, nor did I issue commentary on the overall functionality of windows as a hardware operating system. I mentioned only the aesthetic qualities (or lack thereof) of both systems. I do not think that one is in support of some greater evil by owning either of the two products, I said merely that my opinion is that one is visually better than the other.

Well, I deleted the whole restore folder. but I'm not sure if its the best way to do it. But that stupid restore thing never worked for me anyways. so yah I deleted _restore.
However, if you go into system, then the preformance tab, then click file system, then the trouble shooting tab, there should be a check box to disable system restore. However, you may still need to delete the _restore folder.

Don't delete the restore folder!

In XP:
Open "System" in 'Control Panel', click the "System Restore" tab, and check the box for "Disable System Restore on all drives"
