So you're saying if video game makers stopped putting pixelated blood and "bad words" and square boobies in their games, that there would be no more school shootings, no more fist fights, no more drive bys, no more people sleeping with hookers, no more snipers in washington dc?

no im not saying that....the ga,mes have already poluted this and many more generations......
But just because you object to something doesn't mean it should be banned from the entire country. Just because I don't like Rap music doesn't mean I want them to be "limited" and only be able to sing about bunny rabbits and fun days at the park. Gees. You're probably the guy that sued McDonald's for making coffee too hot after you spilled it all over yourself. You sound like the type of person to blame "someone else" for everything.

no im not a liberalist, i hate them i cant stand them and there stupid way of thinking.... and about the mcdonald thind thats the 90yr old woman......i hate rap too
banned, I am glad you've expressed your opinion supporting "limiting videogame companies" so thoroughly.

Unfortunately, that's censorship. And that's unamerican. Maybe it's cool in diod 47, however.

yeh i guess i spoke to slow......if gameing and movie companies didnt start making these violent games the world would be a diffrent place today....

Dude, you know why I play these supposed violent games? So that I don't go shooting people or beat the crap out of somebody. I can do it by playing video games.

These violent games are for ADULTS. There's a rating on the cover of each game. If a parent doesn't screen what their kids play, its the parent's fault, not the game.

Why you see shootings or violence on TV or movies is because these people are trying to educate. Trying to tell us that these violence are bad.. etc..

I think you watch too much TV. The riots, violence that happened in Indonesia not too long ago wasn't that bad. It was the media that made it look that way. I have an Indonesian friend that told me that... So... you get the idea.

I'm not gonna jump all the way on one band wagon and not the other; you all have some good points... what I'd like to shed some light on is the double standards we seem so willing to adopt.

I'm not gonna call anyone out by names... see if you can find yourself in here:

How can we say that restrictions on violent video games, movies, etc., is censorship and a violation of our rights--yet, we're more than willing to take guns away from law abiding citizens, which IS a constitutional right. Is it because WE like our violent video games, and we don't have any hunter, shooters, or gun enthusiasts in this crowd?

There is significant evidence that purports that violence in video games and on t.v. desensitizes Americans, especially the youth, to violence in real life. If WE stop protecting our own passions for a moment and seriously consider the impact of that desensitization on our society, I think the reality will smack us in the face. What is the cost?

Now for NL: your information isn't complete. Who do we need to protect ourselves from? Yes, other people with guns... and with knives and box cutters, and rapists, and anyone who wishes to violate the safety of our homes or threaten our lives and health. The only ones gun regulations make it harder on is the law abiding citizens. Just like I believe it's not the government's job to censor video games, it's not their job to decide that the constitutional right to bear arms is no longer valid. No gun control law will make it any more difficult for criminals to get guns. So, what are the answers? As I've already said, education is first and foremost. Secondly, more swift and harsh sentencing of criminals who use guns. We as a country have become sluggish in our willingness to punish and quick to bring a lawsuit--not on behalf of the victim, but for the criminal.

Okay, I'm done for now. Who wants the soap-box next?

Violent video games are not made for kids... I've said that plenty of times.

There is no point of having violence in video games. Just like there is no point in having violence in books or on TV. But if it is on TV, suddenly it is called journalism or a good, emotional story or something. And if it's in a book, it is a documentary or an award winning novel. But as soon as you see it in a game, it's a terrorist training simulation teaching people to fly planes and kill people with complicated automatic weapons... When was the last time you heard someone blaming a Tom Clancy novel for a school shooting? He writes about military tactics, weapons, combat, etc. Why is he not blamed for teaching the sniper in DC how to operate his gun and evade detection? The point is, violence is a fact of life. It existed in the real world long before movies and games came along. The movies and games are just simulating what already happens in real life. It's just part of human nature to be intrigued by violence. It always has been, and always will be. They had it thousands of years ago in the colliseums (killing real, innocent people for sport) they had it hundreds of years ago with the witch hunts and so forth (killing innocent people for usually no reason) and now they simulate it on tv and on a computer. That sounds like an improvement to me... Simulating it instead of doing it for real.

Yeah, it desensitizes people. But so does the news these days. There is always something terrible happening in the world, and after a while it all just blends together and you don't really think about it. You just move along with your life and hope something like it doesn't happen to you. But just because you are desensitized to violence doesn't mean you should go out and kill someone. My only problem here is when you blame an inanimate object for a person's actions. A video game can not force anyone to do anything. A gun can not force someone to shoot another person. A plane can not force someone to fly it into a building and kill 5,000 people. People are responsible for their own actions, no matter what. That's all I'm trying to say. Just stop trying to blame everything and everyone for everything that is wrong in the world. I once kicked a friend of mine in the stomach when I was a little kid, because he made me really mad. But I didn't run to my mommy saying that I was just imitating what I saw on tv or played in a video game, and that I shouldn't be punished for it.

Even with this whole video game thing, you are blaming the wrong people. Video game companies are a business, they just make what is going to make them the most money. So they tried making a violent video game, and it sold better than any other game they had ever made. Who's fault is that? Did the video game industry buy millions of copies of the game? Obviously, people really wanted violent games. So they made more of them, because it made them more money. Now they get blamed for desensitizing the world? People already craved it... It's just a natural human instinct. Same reason people watch Nascar for the wrecks. Same reason people slow down to five miles an hour at a car wreck on the side of the road, hoping to see some mangled car with blood splattered all over the windshield. Same reason football and wrestling are so popular... Same reason there are shows on tv about emergency rooms, amazing rescues, etc. Same reason there are web sites dedicated to finding gruesome pictures of mangled people. It's just the way it is.
