Bogus... that is still relative though... I mean my first computer had a 420 meg hard drive... So downloading over a 14.4 modem didn't seem that slow, compared to the amount of space I could store it in. And programs were also a whole lot smaller then, so you could put them on the smaller disks. But it is true about the movies, music, pictures, etc of today. That wasn't available on computers back then...

Piracy has literally exploded over the last couple of years. Its not the same ballpark that anybody was used to even 5 years ago. And I really think it has affected all forms of the internet. Including this forum (probably to a large degree as well). And yeah, this is spoilage. In the years down the road, the net will be so law enforced, this stuff won't happen nearly as often. All fire sharing app sites will be killed off. The net will again go back to the underground warez that has existed since its inception, and all the kiddies that get stuff today will find themselves without. The current crop of teens I see online will probably be the most spoiled of any and all of the people who get online, including of those down the road when the net becomes government controlled. |

Enough chit-chat, Mr. Bogus. Post a real pic of yourself! Step down off your soap box long enough to snap the pic and post it!

Where do you think the internet laws are going? How can they be enforced? The U.S. doesn't own the internet... Neither does japan, or germany, or any other country. Do you think they will section off parts of the net? Or will there be some global law?

not to mention it seems that companies are either a) oblivious to the sever amount of piracy of their programs (no, not likely..) or b)it doesnt bother them enough to do anything about it because it would cost more time and money to fix the problem than it would to just let a few sales go, because the companies really dont lose as much money as one would think, most of the time, people who download pirated software had no intention of buying the program in the first place, but just got it because it was free. Its not like somebody wanting to get photoshop just all of a sudden found out they could get it for free and then got it that way instead. The companies really arent losing that much money, so they probably will never do anything about it, and if they dont, nobody else is going to. |

If laws, such as the digital millenium copyright act can be made, and actually enforced, as which is already going on, yes the interent can be made governed. If not by an actual government, by the businesses that run it. Jail time will probably not come into place, but I see the day that individual people are going to get sued for copyright violations such as warez, movies, and music. It hasn't happened yet, but its close. This will kill off the majority of whats going on now. When business finally gets to a state where just about every single thing on earth has money at stake on the internet, there will be a lot more laws concerning content control.

Companies lose plenty of money to piracy... Adobe is (or was at least talking about) pulling all of their products out of the Asian markets... Not even making software for them anymore because the piracy there is almost completely unregulated. No one was buying their software legally, so it wasn't worth the advertising and shipping costs to ship it over there. So they are losing plenty of money...
