I suppose no musicians, athletes or actors are legitimate political figures either

Correct.

Each of these forms of media have millions of viewers in their audience - therefore, by airing their opinions, they become a serious political force.

Yes, i agree that they DO INFLUENCE VOTERS. Michael Moore certainly does, same with the Daily Show, Saturday Night Live, etc. The difference is, those who are influenced in a profound way by someones comedy act are dupes. Influenced dupes - sure, i'm not denying that - but dupes nonetheless.

michael moore is a cool dude, Ive been watching him since roger and me, and his tv show was great. Sure its been debated if all his stuff is true, but it makes you think and is entertaining stuff. Farenheit 9/11 will most likely be great, and disney is dumb for doing what they did. Moore will move on to better companies to get it done. Lewis black had a nice thing on it last night during the daily show. Disney says they done like to air political stuff during a election year because it can harm the vote. They dont like conflicts. Then Lewis said disney needs to uphold their family friendly image, and then showed a scene from kill bill who did miramax and who is owned by disney. I cant wait to see the movie, it will be very interesting.

While I'll still have a beer with my buddy Malibu, I still disagree, dude.

Comedians aren't all clowns. There's a difference between Moore (whom I'm still not classifying as a comedian as much as a social commentator), Miller, Carlin, Lewis Black - and someone like Gallagher or Chris Farley used to be.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that comedians can still present valid political points through comedy. Cases in point: People have been talking about Carlin's 7 dirty words for almost 30 years, Dana Carvey did his impersonation of GeeDub's daddy AT THE WHITE HOUSE, Margaret Cho and Ellen Degeneras has ridiculed bigotry through comedy, thus promoting gay issues.

By the way, who is on your acceptable Political commentator list? Bill O'Reilly? Vomit. Nobody will talk about a word Bill O'Reilly claims to have made up 30 yrs from now.

Anyone is on my political commentator list. Anyone is allowed to make critiques concerning the government. I respect those, however, who are well educated. Michael Moore is merely a fat, bearded, funny man with a hobby. I'm not entirely sure of his credentials, but i am relatively certain that he is probably pretty low on the list when it comes to degrees.

Oh, how republican of you! Only those with college degrees can play in Nos's sandbox.

I'm a libertarian.

And i don't own a sandbox, so i am not sure what in God's name you are talking about with your smilies and such. If you're using "sandbox" as those who have my respect as a political analyst, then yes - i do believe they should have college degrees. Not that they shouldn't have the right to speak if they don't, only that they won't have my respect as a political analyst.

Who doesn't? Can an architect even formally call himself an architect without the degree? Can a chemist formally call himself a chemist without a degree? Can a political analyst formally call himself a political analyst without a degree?

If your answer is "yes", then continue: would you RESPECT the "expertise" of an architect who had no degree?

I think it is possible to become as educated if not more educated as a non-fomrally trained person in many fields. Including political analysis.

I'm just sayin'... people without degrees is people, too, Nos. You made your point, and I think I've made mine.

I think Michael Moore is a pretty sharp guy. Even if you don't agree - he raises attention to what I think are important issues - and entertains people, too. Because he is or isn't college educated doesn't really mean jack. He investigates and publicizes injustice - I'm all for that. I'll let you know how the film is once it comes out. No hard feelings. ( ---> insert smilie here <---)
