the "free and open society" that moore says should entitle him to be able to publish the film also entitles disney to block any film that they want to, for whatever reason they want to. He can always find another studio that will publish it...

Why shouldn’t Americans be allowed to see his film though? Misinterpreting the facts? Hey, that’s what the news does anyways. The only difference is his misinterpretations are different than our news broadcasts. Personally I’d like to see what he has to say and decide for myself.

Agreed. But if Disney doesn't want to produce/distribute it, then that's their choice. They are a company remember, and companies are concerned with their reputation.

Heck, i may not agree with what Moore has to say, but i would die for his right to say it!

I agree. I think Miramax "will" find another destributor.

I just don't know if I'm comfortable with Disney or any corporation being able to block whatever they want though. Shoot look at what they already own.

You'll notice they own lots of radio stations, tv station, book publishing companies along with movie distrubtors and so on.

You aren't suggesting that the government should control the views of a company, are you?

The government says you can’t refuse a customer because of the color of their skin right?

Yes, and? We're talking about a MEDIA company here.

Is it morally wrong to discriminate against someones views? If you meet a racist, aren't you a bit discriminatory? What you're suggesting here is that if i have this idea for a neo-nazi propaganda film, the bank MUST give me a loan, the production companies MUST supply me with funds and resources, and that the distributer MUST play my film in theatres, or they would be violating the law.

Ridiculous!

Weeeeell you asked if I was suggesting that the government should control the views of a company. Obviously if you want to discriminate against someone, that’s your poragative...

The government is going to have some say as how you can conduct your business. Wouldn’t you say they already control the views by saying you have to accept everyone even though you may not?

Your whole neo nazi example is way off. If you don’t think in this country we should treat everyone equally no matter how off they are than I feel sorry for you. I don't think it makes you much better than the neo nazi then. Nazi’s are the extreme, but you can say that goes for minority races and what not. In the case of this thread we’re talking about political ideals and censorship.

If the neo Nazi…

A) Qualifies for a loan then yes the bank should give it to him.

B) If a company offers to fund his or her project then yes they should be able accept funds just like anyone else.

C) If the Neo Nazi film does in fact meet the requirement and quality levels of a block buster movie than yes it should be at least screened to see how it would do in the theatre. (It probably won’t get shown and I sure as hell wouldn’t see anything pro Hitler but they should have the right to screen it for whoever wants to see it.

Anyway, I think we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this…
