The 1.25ghz were announced today, but they were at 1ghz before that. Pganguly, you could get a 1.25ghz iMac with a superdrive and 17" monitor, PLUS a 12" powerbook with a superdrive for exactly the same price as a 17" powerbook. Plus they are likely going to boost speeds on all powerbook models at Macworld Paris, making the 12" even faster, probably for the same money. That sounds like a plan to me.... |

good stuff, thanks guys, cool to see the upgrades too. i'd LOVE to get a 17" iMac (if the screen is big enough, which it sounds like it is) to run final cut express and maybe some other 3d software. not sure when i'd be able to afford doing that, maybe in the spring sometime. we'll see... chris |

I run C4D, Maya, After Effects, Motionbuilder (which you yourself know needs AT LEAST a 17') all perfectly ok with lots of room to space. It has a viewable area of a 19" Cathode Ray Tube..it's definitely big enough. Go to your local apple store and take a peek. Or take the measurements and draw a screen on paper!

cool stuff, thanks for the info. i've looked at a 17"cinema display and it did seem to have a LOT of space on it as compared to a regular 17" monitor, and from what i understand the cinema is what's used on the iMac. not totally sure what i want it for at the moment, i'm about to get another copy of LW (YAY!), 6.0 right now but whenever i upgrade to 7.5 or 8 i'll get a usb dongle that'll let me install on either a mac or pc. i'm also looking into getting messiah, i have project messiah (plug-in) for lightwave from a while back and can upgrade pretty cheap. the 3d toolkit is a dual-platform version as well so i could install that. and of course, i'd have to buy fce :D i do also want to upgrade my after effects but that's a pc version. too much to upgrade/buy right now... chris |

yeah aidan, being overly ambitious with a slight lack of focus can be detrimental to getting anything done ;) character modeling in LW and rigging for animation in project messiah (or messiah if i upgrade) is first on the list. chris |

Damn... I need to learn how to do ANY kind of 3D stuff. I don't really have the system to run it on though. Yeah, a friend of mine suggested I do that. He's one of the team newbies, Surrender. Thats on the 16th of September, isn't it? |
