Yah, I know that companies inflate their benchmarks, but apple not only inflated their own, but also made it so that the competition was deflated, and then said stuff like "The worlds fastest pc"... I guess what really annoyed me was, I was on this other forum, and these mac fans were all like "Hey check out the new mac, it kicks all the other pc's... just look at the benchmarks on apple's website" o_O

right, cause a pc manufacturer would never specifically use benchmarks that made their machine look good while deflating a mac  chris |

It's ok by me, because AMD is soon to release their 64 bit Opteron processor with 19.2 GB bandwidth (Sept.) I am not knocking the apple G5 at all, but you gotta realise you can't be a "hata" for too long because pc technology isnt stopping and the race between processors and machines and OS's is really redundant. No one will win or lose. It's a race to push technology. So anyone who thinks the Apple G5 is the cutting edge technology is just believing hype. |

Yep. Kyle Bennet already has his dual opteron machine which probably beats your little apple. Yep. :D |

as much as you guys are saying "i don't dislike the apple..." its kinda obvious you do as all you're doing is posting info trying to deflate it whatever the case and whatever anyone's personal feelings, realize that 96% of design firms are mac-based and if being a "real" designer is your goal then you may have to actually work on one someday... chris |

I spent a few years editing audio and midi files on a mac (granted it was pre OSx) and if I hear another person say macs never crash I will cry. I have nothing against macs. Its another computer. But you gotta stand up for the ol' pc when mac users boast about how "great" the mac is, like its some revolutionary idea. Yes the G5 is an awesome computer, I am not saying it isnt, but that doesnt mean pc's are behind the times. And 96% of all design firms dont use macs. You will probably see more macs in printing houses and video editing places (but that has changed as well.) But even rendering farms dont use macs. |

You should really use OSX before you pass judgment on Macs. I used it this weekend and it is stunning. Never had so much fun with a computer before. Basing your feelings towards a Mac on OS9 is like basing your feelings towards the PC on windows 3.1. |

I am not passing judgement on macs. I am just supporting my pc's.... And I wouldnt doubt OSx is a great os. and the gui is amazing, and if I had the cash I would probably have one sitting next to my pc's, but I dont. I wouldnt really compare OS9 to windows 3.1, more like windows 98. |

um, if anything the number of places using macs for video has increased due to final cut pro, and render farms don't have a lot to do with design firms to be honest when it comes to pre-press, print shops, or any type of graphic design (the latter being what i'm referring to with "design firm", the kind of places that get profiled in HOW and similar magazines) they are almost exclusively mac-based. chris |
