WHOW! DAMN FAST! 64bit proc, 1ghz FSB!!

http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,111591,00.asp

In addition to 64-bit support, the new G5 offers a 1-GHz frontside bus (up from 167 MHz in today's G4), for bandwidth of up to 16GB per second. Comparable Intel Pentium 4-based systems offer an 800-MHz frontside bus for a maximum of 6.4 GBps throughput.

strange.. I was looking on apples site
and it seems as tho they were testing a dual g5 processor
against single p4's and xeons.. and it barely out did them
that just one thing to me about a g5 SUCKAGE.

Everywhere they show a single P4, they also show a single G5. And everywhere they show the dual, they show it next to a Dual Xeon system.

The only place that isn't the case is on the Quake III scores, where they have the dual g5 and a single p4. And the G5 is 60fps faster than the pentium.

not that benchmarks mean anything anyway... wait until people actually receive them and do some real world testing before you judge how fast they are.

Yah, have to wait for some realword benchmarks not done by apple, cuz I read a few interesting things about some less than accurate benchmarks that apple has on their site.

Every manufacturer inflates their own benchmarks. Why would they put up benchmarks showing their own product losing? They'll all do anything to show their product in the best possible light. Including dell, intel, amd, gateway, anybody.

well, some guys at NASA tested one and its running pretty dead even with the p4's which is a HUGE performance increase.

as far as price, yes it is expensive and you can build your own cheaper, but a dual p4 system at a high end retailer (like boxx) is going to cost you as much if not more than a dual G5, plus with the G5 you've got DVD authoring and burning, firewire, etc., right out of the box. not to mention you can get final cut pro and shake
