Mi Lo that is correct. I have an 800mhz 17'iMac. That 800mhz is the equivialnt to a 2.1Ghz windows machine or somthing like that. You can only imagine the speed of a dual gig G4 tower!

where do you get your numbers that a 800mhz g4 is as fast as a 2.1 ghz... and what chip? there are many 2.1 ghz. yet all are not as good.

It doesn. There's no way in hell that ANY 800Mhz chip can compare to a 2.1Ghz one. Not even if they're dual. Oh, and as far as Macs go... I have used Macs in the past (G4, ibook, emac), and neither one ran Photoshop as good as my rig. It was all choppy, and filters took hours. I have an AthonXP 1800+ (1.5Ghz), 512MB PC2100 RAM, Radeon 9500 Pro, WinXP Pro. The Powerbooks (best Apple laptop as far as I know) has either a 1Ghz, or a 800Mhz CPU... the only reason why Photoshop might run better on a Mac is the 1MB L3 cache. But still, there's only 256MB or 512MB of either DDR266 or DDR333 (respectively) available. Nothing too spectacular. All this when the best Powerbook (the 1Ghz, 512MB DDR333, Geforce4 440 one) is above $3000. It's a ridiculous price for that machine... even if it does come with a 17" LCD. Big whoop... my CRT is 21"... AND I can't have dead pixels which happens a lot on LCD's, especially those that get carried along a lot. Those people that say that OSX is all über, and smooth and ****... obviously don't know how to use WindowsXP Proffesional well. Sure it might look all pretty, but I can still get a WindowsXP theme that's exactly like the OSX stock one... and run smoother. My suggestion for a laptop would be either a Toshiba Satellite Pro, or maybe a Sony Vaio. |

ah yes, just what I have been waiting for, a negative rant. Jester we are looking at laptops not a gaming machine. Indeed I also have a amd 1.53 512 ddr ge force 4, so I can see where your comming from with that. But apples do use a differnent type of processor that runs alot cooler, not sure on power but since you didnt provide any hard evidence your rant didnt help me any. As for "uber" os x is on a BSD core, if you are anything else other then a gamer then you would understand this opens up endless possiblilties. Price...well yes they are costy, but what..are you going to build me a laptop? I'm glad you suggested two laptops at the end of it but the Sony Vaio would be 3,000 also...so I dont see where that goes.. and as with all lcd screens there are dead pixels. But hey, you can lug around your crt on the plane while I'm on a laptop, personal choice I guess on that heh. Anyways thanks Jester..you just the type of person I was waiting for.
