sorry but couldnt help sticking my oar in here....as you say D its taxpayers money that is used for the cleaning of graffiti (which in my mind cheers up an other wise drab, fumed stained cityscape) and we all know how the taxpayers money is wasted on bs all the time (well in London at least) and we have no choice whether or not we pay it (unless u r a tramp or somat) so let them get on with it and lets all live in peace..

I have an idea.

Ask business owners if they mind you painting a mural on their wall. Do it inside. Do it outside. Doesn't really matter.

There as a guy we called "sundance" back in my home town. Guy could tag like nothing I had ever seen. For a while, he was tagging places he shouldn't have been, getting thrown in the can for it.

But, he wised up. Started asking business owners if he could tag one of their walls. Preferably one that was visable from the street. Usually the guy would let him do it, and sometimes they would pay him a couple hundred bucks to include their name somewhere in the peice. So far, he has painted 30 or 40 murals for the school district back home. And now, they don't erase his work.

I totally agree with axiom on this one. And yes whether you like it or not tagging someone's property unwanted is vandalism, whether its ur artistic expression or whatever u can't argue the fact, it's not an opinion to argue...I can see ur arguement though, but think if you were a business man (or whatever) and u came to work to see ur wall or something graffitied up w/o permission would u be a little pissed that you now have to clean it up? From a businessman's standpoint u probably would be, from ur point it's cool, and from my point its cool :D but not everyone always carries the same views as you. Sometimes its more a matter of respect, and if u ask like axiom suggested they may appreciate it or better yet pay you.

Gees I don't see how you can even argue that it's ok to tag someone else's property. That isn't even logical at all. That's like going up and spray painting someone's clothes or scratching up their car with a key or any other form of vandalism. Some graffiti is very pretty and it truly is an art, but if it's on someone else's property it's just plain vandalism. I don't care how beautiful something is, if someone came along and sprayed it on my house or car or anything else without my permission I would be pissed, and consider it vandalism.

Axiom's idea is good though. Then you get to do your art, and you don't piss everyone else off. Plus your art will stay there instead of being whitewashed over. And if you really do it for the art and not just for the thrill of breaking the law and possibly getting caught, then you should have no problem doing that.
