Since Ax had to mention the 80's, I've really been listening to a lot of Wang Chung lately. A lot of their stuff from the early 80's sounds like some of the "modern" stuff coming out of Europe now. Especially "Let's Go"

I recommend the K-PAX soundtrack. It's very mellow.

I mainly listen to psychedelic trance/goa/ambient. You should get these:

Hallucinogen - Twisted
Shpongle - Tales Of The Inexpressible
Infected Mushroom - BP Empire

3's enough:p

Wang Chung is good stuff. Just goes to show you why America is usually far ahead of Europe as music goes. I think Wang Chung guys were from Europe. But they were American Pop Stars.

Examples:

Techno. Some Eurpoeans claim that techno is a "new" thing and that they are pioneers. Wrong. Techno has been around long before some pastey white dj got ahold of it. Remember Disco? I rest my case.

Rock and Roll? Yep, the Beetles were pioneers of a sort. But where did they have to come to be astoundingly popular? That's right...America. But let's not forget people like Chuck Berry, Elvis Pressly, The Big Bopper, Waylon Jennings etc. They were around long before The Beetles.

Axiom on the patriotic tip this morning I see...

While I'm not too familiar with wang chung. I can definitely say that Oingo Boingo was some serious 80's pop. Excellent college party music. And look at all those One Hit Wonders... crazy.

In my opinion, the best thing to come from the 80's was the evolution of hip hop, though. Run DMC was mixing rap and metal in 1983. Public Enemy, Kool Moe Dee and LL were forerunners in the gangsta rap thing, too. Although Dre would never admit that he didn't invent it in the 90's with snoop...

But, dude, you gotta let the British have the best original punk stuff. Sex Pistols and the Clash came from the U.K and they still kick so much ass...
