All of my hardware will be an iMac, and an iPod, so I think I'll be ok.

Then when Photoshop comes out, I'll be all set. Hooray!

Gotta love ya graphics guy, you always got my back!!

Prepress machines have a whole host of programs that designers don't have, and yet their "old" G3 made my W2K baby look bad. You should see the files that come into a print shop! Web designers have now idea what a large file is until they deal with a 12" by 18" monthly calendar for processs color! Can you say BIG!!

I just created a backlit 3D flip image roughly 3 x 4 ft @ 720 dpi.

I totally understand big.

my files today:
513 MB
260 MB
196 MB
196 MB

deker, sounds like you're on the right track with hardware. I'm jealous about the iPod. I want one of those bad!!

Yup! You know what big is all about.

And you are talking about large format as well as CMYK - is that printing on some sort of inkjet, like ColorSpan Displaymaker, or some other means?

You gotta admit if you and I designed web sites everyone would need at least a T1 to see it! :D

Don't leave me out guys, I've been a mac user for AGES, and at work I still prefer the old G3 beige desktop that sits over abandoned in the corner, (its still running 8.1) most of the work gets done on the new G4's though.
... and I'm a printer. Them 500 meg tiff files don't scare me

sorry dude, didn't mean to leave ya hangin'

long live beige macs!! (unless somebody wants to buy me a new G4 - G5(?))

oh, and yup, my web pages have gotten some complaints from the 56k people. I'm getting better at that, though.

Deker, I've listened to you piss and moan and whine about how much you can't wait to get your mac.... No offense to all you mac-heads, but they suck. I've been taking a class in the 'mac lab' at school for a bit now, and they're a pain in the arse. Every lab there is someone who has to go get tech support--prob is, tech support ends up having to call someone almost every time. This room full of shiny, purdy G4's ain't worth cuuurrrrap. They're tempermental, and the networking is laggy. Plus, the interface is as annoying as pigs in rut.

Sorry, I just got tired of listening to you guys trash talk PC's for so long while us PC guys just lay there and take it like a 20 dollar hooker.

Let the flaming BEGIN!

What flaming? I don't care if you don't like them... I'm still getting one and I'm still excited about it. If you don't like them, fine. Don't like them. Use a PC. Have fun.

Cranky,

he's right, have fun.

have fun with your next de-frag, that is.

All computers are tempramental, that's a fact.

maybe your mac lab needs some qualified tech people. The one at my old school ran flawlessly.

I understand this is like the 90 year old chevrolet vs. ford thing, but in this case, I'm not going to take it any further. I've done it 100 times. boring argument anyway.

to each his/her own.
