Hey Deker, after reading your comments about converting to mac, and my own research concerning the subject - I thought I'd mention a couple of things. It is rumored that the G5's will be released this week or early next week, with processors that surpass the Ghz mark, I think it is time to hold on to our seats!

Another note, I was at a large printing company the other day and was messing around with their "outdated" G3. I was truly impressed! Even while running PS 5.5 and 6, Pagemaker, Quark, Indesign, Ilustrator 8 and 9, Freehand and a whole host of other programs it was running faster than my Win2k machine (which is NOT a slouch)!

Don't get me wrong I don't plan on giving up my Win2K machine, just using it for gaming and stuff - not graphics:D

Anyone have any thoughts - Deker?

Hooray!

I haven't even purchased my Mac yet... Hope too after I get married in two weeks.

Yes, I've heard of the G5 rumors. It's out of my price range right now to get a tower or a TiBook though, which is what those processors would probably come out on first. So the new iMac is just right for me. I will be getting the $1,800 one with the DVD burner and an iPod after the wedding hopefully.

But if you were thinking about getting a tower, I would wait for a while and see if the G5s or a ghz G4 come out. I know the iMac Specs won't change for a while, so I'm going to go ahead and get one as soon as I can.

Seems like a good idea to me - - I mean if you can handle suffering with a "measly" 800 mhz G4 . . . :D

The only thing I don't like about the new imac is the 15 inch monitor. Maybe they'll come out with another one, with larger monitors . . .

Are you going to buy a new version of PS? I think Adobe offers cross-platform upgrades for about the cost of a standard upgrade (I KNOW they do from Mac to PC - don't see why they wouldn't the other way around). You'll have to call them though - they don't advertise it.

I think I can stand to have a 800mhz G4...

If the monitor becomes that big of a factor, then I could always buy a bigger one and plug into into the VGA out port on the back.

I won't get a new copy of PS until 7 comes out native on OSX. Then I will have no reason to switch back and forth between OSX and OS9. All of the other programs I will use are already OSX native.

Geez. If a dual 800mhz G4 costs $3500 (the equivalent of a 1.6ghz machine for programs that support dual cpus), I can't imagine what the new ones will cost.

Thats the whole problem with Apple. They charge too dang much.

Hmm . . .
I wonder how that will work . . .
Two monitors on one 32 mb video card . . . I have two 19's on two cards now, one 64 and one 32 and I can barely handle larger files - but thats PC

Hey I thought of something . . .

"See that brilliant flat-panel display with a 15-inch active-matrix LCD screen? It delivers nearly the same viewable area as most of those bulky beige 17-inch CRT displays ? and with twice the brightness, sharpness and contrast." www.apple.com

So it is technically a 17 inch monitor . . .

I definitely plan on waiting awhile to see what comes out!

The new ones will probably be the price of the those models and the old ones will drop down. Like they did with the iMac.

And the new iMacs are very affordable and nicely priced. DVD burners alone cost over $500, plus theres a 60gig hard drive, built in flat-screen monitor, 256 megs of RAM, etc.

Plus with Apples you are paying for the great programs that come with it like iTunes, iDVD, iPhoto, and iMovie.

And 'they're too expensive' is a lame excuse anyway. Going back to the good ol' car industry comparison, no one complains about Mercedes and BMWs costing too much. I mean they do, but people also know they are much better cars, and so they don't mind paying a little more up front for that.

But there is no point in arguing with PC lovers.

The second monitor would just mirror the first. It isn't an expanded desktop. So it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Mr Bogus, I would imagine that Mac will price the new machines a "little" bit higher than the current prices, right now it would make no sense to spend $3000 on a Tower when you can get the same features on a $1800 imac WITH MONITOR! No . . . they would have to make the prices pretty comparable.

I know that they seem like they are expensive but any good graphics box will cost $3000, shoot even if you build one from scratch the materials are almost that much (OK maybe $2000) go to dell see how much their state of the art machines run . . .

I'll testify:

I run a 1.5 GHz P4 with a Gig of RAM at work all day, and I'd still prefer to work at home on my Mac G3 Desktop with 192 MB RAM - I bought it in Fall of 1998. Not necessarily faster, but smoother all around.

As a Mac vet, I love to hear it. Same ol' Same ol' : If you're a gamer get 'cha a PC. If ya dig graphics: Go mac, you won't go back.

p.s. mac newbies: Be careful when you get OSX. I'm still bitter that I dropped 130 bones on it. Be sure all of your hardware is supported before you install it.
