as i said, i'm not blaming anyone in particular or pointing fingers, that just happened to be one recent example where i'd posted some detailed, thought out critique on a piece and saw no response whatsoever. some good points by all. i will say that i'm not looking for anything as far as respect or propularity or anything else here, if that were my goal i'd post more in the misc forum, post more of my own work, get on irc and im's with people, etc. nor am i complaining about people who post artwork for feedback that might be subjective or work that's not really intended for critique, if you want to post that then go for it. if a post says something like "i know this sucks and i don't like it but what do you think rate it 1 to 10" then i'm generally ignoring it, if you don't care about the piece why should i? the pieces i do post on are full sites or assignments where there was a definite design goal, something where i can tell the work was put it and it at least seems like you want real feedback on what works and what could be better. that's why i post here, particularly for those of you who are serious about design, to give you feedback from someone who's been in the trenches and knows what an art director or senior designer will pick apart on a piece. posting critiques really does very little for me, i'm just trying to help y'all out. if its not doing any good, however, why should i bother? if you guys want to get better then let's get into some discussion on this stuff, which i guess is what my whole point behind this would be. heck, argue with me, it'll make it more interesting but on pieces that are really being designed i'd like to see some actual design discussion, let's talk about design principles and why things work and why they don't, whether the idea behind the piece was communicated or not. ya know, the stuff that design is all about in the first place hope that all makes sense... /rant (sorry) chris p.s. i like you too mihai, thanks for the warm fuzzies ;) |
