I'd be out of luck, but that's my point. This is how strongly I feel about this Spectra. I said earlier that I don't expect a handout, I don't deserve a handout, and don't think anyone, the poor included, deserve anything just because they live in the country. I don't get why people who believe in natural selection fail to see how it applies to humans. If you can't afford to have kids, don't have kids. I think the kids should be taken care of however, but I don't think the parents deserve a frickin' dime from society. I think the parent(s) need to hunker down and get a job at WalMart to provide money and insurance to their children. I really think it's ridiculous that somebody can simply refuse to work and still make a living in this country. |

It's not a handout to reward lethargy, it's aid to help people get a head start. For the poor it's a vicious cycle. You're born poor, the inner city schools are terrible, no one expects you to do anything with your life, you get some crappy job after high school because there is no money for college. No one wants to hire a dirt poor or homeless minority (or anyone poor for that matter) and you spend your life in some manual labor job with no chance of promotion for the rest of your life. People say "but there's a way out" but for thousands, even millions there simply is not. And with unemployment higher now than during the Great Depression the job market is even more competative. With your logic only the rich would be able to have kids. The poor should be content to waste away their lives and die doing manual labor so you can have coal to heat your house or can buy a shirt for a dollar at Wal-Mart. As a member of this nation, especially for people who fight for this nation and end up homeless, I believe that people are entitled to as much an evening of the playing field as possible. It's not your fault you're born poor, it's chance, fate, whatever you call it. Someone who is poor should have the same opportunities for raising children and having health care as the rich. Tough luck you may say, but what if you are on the other end. I can promise you that you would feel differently. Do me a favor, go the to Projects in New York City or D.C. and get to know some people. I know you haven't been because of the way you talk about this stuff. Life is hell for them and they stay in that hell generation after generation with no other reality than work and death. You are privilaged, you had a good experience in school, you got a nice job, you have a family. Others are not as lucky. I know reading this will not change your mind. I don't even know why I bothered to write it, I felt it needed to be said even if it's futile. I know I am going to do my best to ease the vicious cycle of strife for the poor, you can ignore them, life a contented life, die and go to heaven or cease to exist or whatever you believe. No one will care either way in a hundred years. No one will care about either one of us or what we did. In one hundred years six billion people will be dead and no one will care about any of us except for the small fraction of world leaders who will be forgotten in another generation. Life is futile, poverty is increasing, greed has become the modus operandi of the Western world. Don't care about your race, your species. Take what society gives you and reciprocate as little as possible. |

!!! Here is the "What the ****" quote of the day !!! Did you just make this up?? I remember with a great degree of accuracy the unemployment rate during the Great Depression was around 25%. In case you've been living in a damn hole for the last 75 years then you'd know that the unemployment rate hasn't even come close to being that low. The rate right now is at what, 5.6 or 5.7%. Yeah, the exact same rate it was to start the 2nd half of Bill Clinton's Presidency. People are making it sound a lot worse out there than it really is, and for someone who obviously knows exactly nothing about labor statistics you sure are attempting to throw a lot of fuel on the fire. And you obviously didn't read my previous posts, because I did not have a good experience in school. Public school was about as informative as a John Kerry campaign speech, and about as worthless as Jello pool cue. |

I finally agree with Mattboy in something. No one should ever have kids if they cant take care of them on their own. That is the plaijn truth and if they do, thats very irresponsible. As for the "natural selection" statement ill reserve my comments. Just a thought for you mattboy, Last year i paid over 15,000 in taxes, do you know how much i got on my tax return?? 1,185 federal and i still had to pay 300+ to the state of new york. I have never collected help or any special services from the city. And you want to vote for a "president" who is spebding 2 BILLION yes BILLION a month to fight a war in IRAQ!!!! then has the nerve to give a tax break to people making over 100,000 a year, give me a ****ing break man. I didnt even get the 300 dollars i was supposed to get from "his" tax break because im not married go figure, :( And im with you telemakos, people that have never been or seen a ghetto, project, ect you cant really blame them for being ignorant to that point/way of life. They just dont know due to their lack of experience. And just a quick fact the majority of people on public help are white americans!!! can you believe that from what you see on tv and news, neither did i but is true. |

I agree and disagree. Yes, I can do that;) I'm paying for medicade and medicare am I not? Sort of the same thing you just described. Only I'm paying for poor people too. Which I don't mind. What I do mind are the A holes sponging off me that could work... There are too may other posts to respond to. I'd say posts about the economy being bad are lies. Watch the news. Even the liberal news can't hide the fact that the economy has bounced back. Just like predicted... The only test will be time to see if it holds. This whole 9-11 commission thing is an F'ing joke. If you want answers sit there and shut up and let the person responding to questions answer. This was nothing more than two sides bitching at one another. I'm not sure one was more well behaved than the other. People DIED! Stop bitching at one another and grandstanding. Forget the politics and get your answers. Whether Clinton failed or Bush. I don't care. Somewhere down the line there were mistakes made. Probably mistakes that in hindsight could have been corrected. But, people make mistakes. On both sides... That is my view on the world in 30 seconds. Oh, and one by one my rights are being taken away... and "air America" makes me giggle... ;) Pav. Sorry to hear about your Dad. |

Well Bush is trying to pander to the left and that pisses me off. I'm not going to disagree that the government spends too much money, I think the government needs to spend less money. If they spend less money, they won't need as much of my paycheck to pay the bills, which pleases me. I'm with Pank on the 911 Commission. It's simply a political witchhunt. For anyone who heard the guy questioning Ms. Rice, you'll understand where I'm coming from. This trial lawyer mentality is what is ruining society..."who do we blame?"..."who can we sue?". We blame the people who flew the planes into the buildings, it's simple. ========================== And don't tell me it's not possible to pull yourself out of the gutter. My mother raised me and 3 brothers alone. She worked at a factory job while we were at school. She went back to school to get her nursing degree at nights. During this time we lived VERY poorly. We often had people from the church bring boxes of food to us. When my mom got her nursing degree (LPN), she got a job as a nurse and started making more money. She didn't stop going to school though, she kept taking night classes. She then got her RN, but still didn't stop going to school. Classes now were more expensive, so she worked 7 days per week to take care of us and pay for school. She then got her Masters degree (BSN) and works at a private clinic making around $100,000/year. My mom went from a minimum-wage jean-sewing job making about $12,000/year (raising 4 boys alone) to making a 6-figure salary. Don't tell me that you can't do it because I've seen it done with my own eyes, I've lived the life, I was never spoiled, I never had the toys that the other kids did, I had to get a job at 14 to buy the things that I wanted to have because my mom couldn't buy them for me. ================== I worked at McDonalds for 4 years during high school and during college. I worked with a lot of welfare cases. I heard more than once, somebody tell me that they couldn't be scheduled to work more than 13 hours per week or they would lose their government check. One woman I worked with was trying to get pregnant again so she could get a bigger check. After that whole experience, I knew I was going to do everything I could to change the system. I support the law to only allow someone to be on welfare for 2 years, I support the law to force welfare parents to work at least 30 hours per week. I don't feel a bit sorry for someone who doesn't want to work and is living poorly...not at all. I think you get what you give. If you give no effort you get nothing, it's simple. |

Oh my GOD, i love you. Here's my latest topic at DFS - Shutup Already, 9/11 Commission. Actually, i'd say Bush would dramatically cut spending to things like social security, welfare, etc for the sake of lower taxes. The problem right now is that the Left only really allows him to do half of the job (cut the taxes), and not cut spending. God knows - if you stop our welfare programs, you're nothing but a heartless fool! Nos. |
