Why is everyone all heated up about the artists getting money anyways? You’re only speaking for the small majority of musical talent out there who are making any money at all.

The 1% or so of the artists out there in the world that we ever hear about who are making loads of money is still making loads of money. The 99% of the rest are still poor and are getting no exposure. How are we taking money from the artists if we’re only hurting a really small majority? There are more musicians out there than Britney Spears and so on. Just because they’re pay check goes down a little doesn’t mean we’re hurting all the musical talent out there and are exploiting other peoples artistic abilities.

Its just hurting the few corporations who invest every bit of their money in a select few people. You’re not hurting the artists you’re hurting the greedy record industry.

Internet Piracy is way too common these days. However, I disagree with the tactics on how the RIAA is handling this, why aren't they working with the government on this issue? I haven't been keeping track of this, so my post may sound ignorant.

Down with internet piracy, and down with the way the RIAA is handling this.

"Does that change the fact that it is ILLEGAL to duplicate files?"

well, this is the RIAA's message, and it's wrong. It is not illegal to duplicate files, that's ridiculous. It's illegal to distribute other people's stuff, whether it's for free or not, without these people's permission.

If I buy the new Kid Rock CD, import it into my iPod, burn a backup copy to keep in my car - because I don't want it stolen when I go to the mall, but if it does get ripped off, then I'm okay, because it's a backup. These are LEGAL actions. As soon as I sell a copy, it's illegal.

This thread started to discuss the RIAA's pseudo-cops raiding some guy selling CDs out of his trunk in LA. Fine. That's been illegal for as many years as recorded music has been around. Where the RIAA gets off, though, is making examples out of Joe Normal, and scaring people into thinking they'll get caught, too. Fine. It's a weak strategy, it's going to get them sued, eventually, and it's a lousy, counter-productive game plan for a sinking ship, the RIAA.

Even as it suffers setbacks in the courtroom, the RIAA has over the last 18 months built up a national staff of ex-cops to crack down on people making and selling illegal CDs in the hood.

ahahahahha i couldn't read the rest of the article cause that was so damn funny.
