This reminds me of a Tibetan piece of wisdom - you know - those things that are so abstract nobody understands them but everyone says "wow - that's deep!" There's this yogi and an apprentice: Apprentice: What time is it Yogi? Yogi: You mean now? |

It's the 4th dimension, the supposed present exists at one point on the time line, and since there can only be one and only one point at a given position, the present exists at that infinitely small point. The true present is the instance where every atomic and subatomic particle exists at one specific position (let's leave out anti-particles for the time being). The human perception of now is based on the position of things and the light coming from it, that is, the human "now" sees an object in the universe that's 3Mpc away as it was 9,780,000 years ago. In essence, everything that we see with our eyes is where it appeared to be.

its hardly going to get better explained than this .. so read it over and over, untill you get it! edit* Oh and why cant present exist!? Who decides that only past and future exist?! why cant it just be past, present and future? That would solve everything, wouldnt it? |

on a philosophical level it was interesting a hundred years ago, now it's just....well, obsolete. The whole concept of time is a human need, but still as abstract as others similar. <--- philosophical crap anyone can tell, doesn't do any good Time is time, the present is now, as I'm typing this. The fact that we can't split it into a scale has nothing to do with it. This is why we've got years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. We can go infinitely "zooming in", but it's of no use, as it's just a scale we made up. < /post-pubish reply> |

If you draw a line, it isn't a line, but a moving dot. It moves to cover an area ahead of it while leaving a trace behind it, nonetheless it is a dot...behold, the present. It is the dot moving. Time is a powerful force in the universe yet intangible. It causes one to age, the deterioration of rocks, the shifting of plate techtonics, the evolving of technology and human race. Time cannot be stopped nor recovered once it has passed. This is the present, the moving dot. The dot is the presence and time is the measure. A trace left behind and a future to encounter. The present is not necessarily a moment, but can be an epoch. A time period upon a plane of time. As a dot can move on paper or canvas, but never leave the canvas or paper, that paper can be a period of time, hence the encompassing of a present time. Now allow me to mess up some concepts here. Time can always be present when considered that it is encapsulated within the spectrum of eternity, wherein time itself does not change but always remains as present. Therefore, there is no future or past when considering the eons of time. So I say, live in the dot live in the present, live on the canvas of life still live in the present of what that life is encapsulated in. Learn to live and worry not for the past present or future, but live to live and you'll know, it's always the present. Cheers! |

I always loved: "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound?" The simple answer is yes, but it entertained me for a while as I wondered if it did not exist since nothing recieved the sound energy. |

hmm i wonder... i was just think if we didnt have a sun the earth does not move. there is no life on earth at all just land. nothing changing. no movment at all!! how would we see time?? how can there be a past present and future? it would just be present but then again present is between past anf future so if there is no past and future there cant be a present.... (just thinking out of the box)
