It's not going into a platform war on my account... I'm just answering questions that people ask about the Mac... The iBooks are of course even cheaper with an educational discount. They have a special education model that just has a CD-ROM and 128 megs of ram, for $950. And then $100 off every other model. Nice. And then of course if you do the other educational discount plan, you can get like $600 off the powerbooks... (What!!??) |

The new Sony Vaio laptops are looking really sexy. Being a gamer and all, I think I might go with that instead of a Mac. If I didn't play games, I would get a Mac.

Yes if games are important you will definitely want a PC. There just isn't much selection of games/peripherals for the Mac.

PC's the way to go for gaming, fo sho' but - be careful of the Sony Vaio machines, telemakhos. I've heard nothing but horror stories about them. Actually, I saw a bench in the repair shop at one of the CompUSA's here in Vegas with four of them on it at a time, while I was there with my friend, who was taking his Vaio Desktop back- YIKES! |

to answer both you and gg, i'm running LightWave 6.5 on win2k at the moment. (and actually, the mac is looking pretty good in terms of 3d these days. you've got maya, LW, and cinema 4D all available as well as wings3d and electric image. not too shabby.) the interesting thing is that the upgrade to LW 7.5 is a USB duo-dongle version. in other words, i can install it on both a mac and a pc and just switch the USB dongle to run it on that machine. that's what's got me thinking mac and i don't really play games much on the pc, that's what consoles are for :D thanks for the info guys, i was just looking at a friend's G4 15" powerbook earlier and it is SWEET. soo tempting... chris |

Yeah I am trying to get the 15" myself. Depends on what my boss will spend... The 17" is just too big if you are going to move it very often though. But the 15" has most of the same features and speed as the 17", with a much more portable size.
