It's my fault CD's are priced so high. And all of yours. So stop compaining. The artists "have to" price them so high so that they'll make the amount of money they want to make with the decreased sales. The decreased sales come because we just downloaded the music instead. I understand that current artists are multimillionaires and making 2 million off a CD instead of 5 million isn't really a big deal. But someday, all of them are going to die and there are going to be new artists. They are going to make absolutely no money at all. Everybody will download their music and their CDs will be 30 bucks each. Nobody will be able to make a career as a music artist. This might be a good thing, however. It might do a better job of weeding out all of the crappy artists before they get too big. Then the industry will be a lot more pure and have a lot more real musicians. Not that they'll be making any money. This is just how I see the whole issue. - I use SoulSeek to download music and its a great service - I think it works so well because its not as huge as Kazaa, etc. Try it out if you want - just don't tell all your friends. :D tom |

I guarantee you it isn't the artists that are raising CD prices, it's their labels. The artists make pennies off of each CD. They make most of their money from touring and merchandise. and there will always be rock stars, whether there are CD's or labels in the future.

while it may sound good, that's a big fat negative. cd prices haven't gone up as a cause of pirating music, they simply haven't gone down. its not a straight-forward cause and effect issue, cd prices were really high which gave people the incentive to pirate music, and since people can now get their music free they're selling less albums. chris |

From working in the music industry I understand loads of monies being issued out to make an artist truly a success. Marketing materials, cd pressing, promotional materials, tours, hotels, transportation, etc... x-Fusiun-x has a band as well as deker, so if someone was downloading your stuff off of Kazaa and you did not get one red penny of it you would be pissed. It's like working for free. The 12 yer old girl getting sued is straight BS. The artists aren't rich from record sales, but are rich from touring and endorsements. Also from the many fanatical teenagers who will go out and buy a half-bitten sandwich of the artist for $200. Im not hating on file sharers because I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. Don't hate on the artist because half of that stuff you see on MTV Cribs is loaner stuff, just to boast the popularity of the Artist so the Record Company can make mo' money. Here is a list of artists to exploit. Metallica Madonna Michael Jackson Britney Spears Puff Daddy Jay-Z and the list goes on and on. These are the people who run their own labels and make over $2 - $3 per record sales. Most other artist are in the hole from the initial loan from the record company. So in actuality it's your favorite artist that you are hurting. The RIAA is upset becuase it has loads of overhead it needs to take care of, so if you do not buy the album the loan can not be paid off. Sorry for the long explainantion, but it's not right to sh*t on the artist, but sh*t on the record companies who exploit teh artists. -Zwarte the great |

I'm not in a band anymore, but I didn't care if people traded our songs on the internet. I'd be happy if they did actually. And so would every other musician I've ever talked to.

Well zwarte most of the artist you mentioned are rich enough and so are the labels so I don't think they need sue the little girl for a lot of money, beside, you can see the trend where eventually cds are gonna be disappear and every song is gonna be downloaded and traded via the internet and son on... It's really the retailers that suffers

Ok well heres another thing, the Music Industry is just like anything else, its a business. As technology changes, business might also change in the process. Wether it be good or bad, they have to keep up with the technology. Wow, maybe they aren't making as much money on the cd's. Technology is Changing. Find something different to market the artist. There is no way around this technology, its here to stay, and thats that. Remember when Radio was supposed to be the death of music? And VCR players/recorders were goign to kill movies? Doesn't matter how much piracy is going on, fans will always want an original. Look at us for instance, technology changes and we have to learn more stuff. I remember when there was such things as graphic designers. Now you have to know graphic design, html, flash, + more to land a job. And most of the time the pay is still the same or less, sometimes higher for more work you have to know. Same thing goes with them, they are confronted with a problem, and they are trying to stop a problem that of course can't be stopped. So why not work with it, learn, and get back in business. Hey it might be hard, but hell....you want to make millions upon millions of dollars,it's not going to be easy. As far as what trhaynes said about in the future there will be no money to be made. Thats just crazy. Fans will always buy cd's,attend concerts, buy dvds. Music can never die. Piracy has been around for the longest time, and people are still making money and will continue making money. Just how they do it now, might change a little just like everything else. Feel bad for the RIAA? Just can't do it......it's a business..if you can't keep up with the times, then get out of the game. |
