Yes indeed, red paint. It's no different with any other color. If it were green paint, it can be confused with radioactive material; yellow with human bile; black with evil etc. Colors like blue will blend in with the globe too much, and the only remaining warm color is red or orange. If anything, the red makes it an effective logo because it can capture the attention of the viewer. It most likely was chosen for its effectiveness. If stuff like this deters people from patronizing a company, it's the people at fault, not the logo. As deker said 40 to 60 years ago they probably didn't think about future crisis. After that much time, I don't think SWP would without hesitation redo their logo.

If you think about it, almost all logos depicting some sort of existing object or pattern can be associated with a negative connotation; it's just a matter of subtlety and human stupidity.

Sure, they might not have thought of crisis in the future... because they had their own!! Sixty years ago = World War II, fourty years ago = Cold War and Vietnam War. Yeah, I'm sure the makers of the logo weren't aware of those things.

Besides I would think that red has it's strongest emotions attached to it, green could mean radioactive waste, it could also mean trees and grass. Yellow could be the sun, oranges. And black is not a color ;) . However with red, MOST of the time, MOST people think blood. It's just natural. If the company did think of all this, I'm sure they would have either changed the color, or the logo altogether. Maybe they're just lazy, maybe it'll cost millions to start producing different banners, ads, labels, etc.

If you look at the veins on your palm... they're blue-ish.

But, yeah... I still think that the company should reevaluate their logo. Maybe replace the globe with some little kid's head.. or something. :D

Nearly right. the human blood is actually red while inside the body but a very deep red, almost like black, and it turns lighter when oxgen is present. I hate to be god damn fussy but I must. :D

I KNEW there was a reason.
