look at the prices, apple knows they will make money on singles so they jack up the price. albums have 15-20 albums on average so thats around 75 to 50 cents a song if you pay the 10 dollars for the album. but then singles are 99 cents. thats what im saying. they are ripping you off in the singles. why cants everything be 50 cents?

I have an MP3 CD player in my car, and I can fit over 200 songs on a CD, but that doesn't mean the CD costs over $200...

it will cost 200 dollars if you pay for every single, like you say you would. 200 songs = 200 dollars.

Redeye, your logic makes no sense at all. Why would you want to pay $18 for a cd, when you only like 3 or 4 of the songs? Wouldn't you rather have a CD full of songs you actually enjoy and listen to?

thats exactly what im saying... those dollar songs add up, by the time you fill up a cdr thats about 20 or so songs, so thats 20 bucks for a cd and thats a lot. Also i dont know where you get your albums but i would recommend going to bestbuy because their albums arent 18 bucks

Deker called me a Whiner....:(

Tell ya what - I'll quit whining when/if I get the job I interview for tomorrow morning! I promise!!! It's the biggest interview in my 26 years.

Back to the topic at hand....I'd be happy to buy a song for .99, personally. Here's an idea - pay full price for the hot, new singles (Kid Rock, Eminem, Creed, Christina Aguilera (hot) )...the older ones, that lose their appeal over time (to the record labels and the charts - as well as the trendy pop radio target market) are cheaper. Maybe a 2-for-1 sale on singles that are older, like Motley Crue or Ugly Kid Joe, for example...

Our local cable company just started this new movie service that works that way. You can buy and access a newer movie for $3.99 - and the older ones are only $1.49. You get it for 24 hours, and you can pause, ff, rew, etc. - if you're smart, you have a VCR hooked up and you get to keep it - I like it. No late fees!

Another thing to think about - Apple's going to get competition with this stuff - give it a month, I bet there's a Yahoo! or a MSN version that's selling the same tune for 0.89 a song, then 0.79 per song, and so on...

There are already other pay for music songs out there, they just aren't very successful yet because you have to have a subscription and it's complicated to use.

Redeye, my point is that I would rather have a cd with 20 .99 cent songs on it that I actually liked, than to pay for a full CD that only has 3 or 4 good songs on it. I have some CD's that I only listen to one song on. That means you have to pay $12 - $18 for a CD that has one song you like on it, which means you are paying $12 - $18 for ONE SONG. Because you won't listen to the rest of the CD if you don't like it. By only paying .99 cents a song, you can buy the songs you like off an album for $3, $4, or $5, depending on how many songs you like on the album. So it's actually like paying that much for an album, not paying 20 dollars for a CD...

i know, but i would not pay 99 cents a song. 50 cents i probably would. i just feel they should have the same price over all, because obviously there are more people like me that think a dollar a song is too much. because yeah i would love to have a cd of my favorite songs, but that really adds up fast.

My bad...what i was looking at was U2's latest album. The apple music store is brand spanking new so all the songs weren't there, in fact only 3 were...hence the $2.79. And Dek, Irish money is not existant any more The current exchange rate basically means that at the moment ? = $ give or take a couple of cent. The albums over here (Ireland being one of the most expensive Europea countries) cost FROM ?25. If it's cheaper, it's either in a sale or it's crap. I'd buy a song for .99 any day.

Here's a fun example:

I liked the song "Butterfly" by Crazy Town when it came out.

If I wanted to acquire that song, I had to buy the entire album, which as you can see here, is $12.99 plus shipping.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000296JD/qid=1051631884/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/104-7692021-9987103

The CD has 14 tracks, which comes out to about $.93 per track.

But I only like the song "Butterfly". The rest is absolute garbage, and I have never listened to any of the other songs, not even once.

This means I paid $12.99 for 1 track. Sure, I have the right to play the other tracks, but they suck, and I don't listen to them.

With Apple's service I can pay .99 for the one song I wanted off of that album, without having to pay for the packaging, and the 13 other crappy tracks that I don't want to listen to.

Now how is that more expensive?

Even if I liked 6 of the songs on that album, it's still cheaper than buying a $12.99 album.

Even if I wanted the full album for $9.99, it's still cheaper than buying the album from amazon for $12.99.

Hell if I know Cybling. I'm hoping by the end of the year, if not sooner. Hopefully i can get a nice freelance web design job or two to cover it. I'm thinking a 17" iMac and one of the new 15 gig iPods. Then spend the rest on software. Maybe an iBook down the road.

How is that little knobby thing workin' out for you? I forgot what it's called.
