Yay....except.... I have seen NOT ONE performance test putting a Dual Mac against a Dual PIV (or heaven forbid, and Dual Athlon). Only one's I've seen are against single CPU (PIV) systems. The Virtual PC is a very nice feature on the Mac, but performance with it is nowhere near that of a PC. Macs are beautiful, but for the same price as a new dual G4, I can put together a Dual Athlon w/RAID, DVD-R/+R, LCD, 2gig RAM, etc., which would literally stomp the G4 in EVERY test it comes up against...and have a LCD and multi-format DVD burner to boot. Still, the Macs are beautiful, as is OSX. |

i'm not gonna complain that one is better than another, but for raw horsepower a pc will blow the doors off a mac. chris |

Not everyone is interested in raw horsepower... There are a whole lot of benefits to the Mac that have nothing to do with the amount of gigahertz their processors are. I have an 866mhz Dell and I can honestly say I don't need a faster one right now except for games. I need a lot more RAM, but the computer is never really that slow except for when trying to run several programs. So I really don't think the speed of the processor is the best comparison point of a computer. And VirtualPC isn't supposed to be a replacement for a PC I don't think. It's just nice to have the option to run it if you have an old DOS application for work that only runs on Windows or something. Whereas on the PC you have windows, and that is it. Then on the Mac you can run Windows, MacOS and Unix programs. Pretty sweet if you ask me. |

I do agree that it would be nice to run OSX on my XP box. I really love the interface.

true true.. Yeah unless you have a gig of RAM, you couldn't really run XP very well. I've allocated 360mb SDRAM to it and it runs..ok. It's fairly smooth but i couldn't run anything large on it. The benefits of having a PC on your mac are just great..in many Mac using graphic design companies, they would have to buy a couple of PCs just to make sure that websites and CDs are compatable. Now you dont. About speed..i'll say it again, you can't compare macs to pcs because the chips are measured on a different scale. Running OSX on my 512 SDRAM 800mhz is the fastest macine i've ever ran. No one application other than Maya takes over 10 seconds to open. The G4 is so very fast, I can't imagine what a dual G4 is like Feels good to have 3 OSs on one machine :D |

Well I am not going to complain about Macs because I would have one next to my PC box if I could fork of several grand for another computer to maintain, but you are not limited to Windows on a pc either =)
