Holy crap. A 17" laptop! www.apple.com they also released a 12" powerbook, a new web browser, and a presentation program like powerpoint. built in bluetooth, wireless networking, etc. even has a light detector that senses when the light is low, and then the keyboard automatically lights up! |

buy me one, too!! That sounds sweet. Not that the old PowerBooks were lousy... This freelance gig I'm working on could be the down payment I've been looking for. I'm going for the middle of the road PowerMac G4 though, I need more juice than a laptop. Plus, I already have a 21" Studio Display to plug right in. anyone check out the new apple browser, safari ? give us some reviews, if so. I don't have a mac at work, and I don't use OSX yet, either. so, I'm out. |

Safari uses KHTML, so at least it should be standards compliant hopefully. Does anyone know if KHTML is konqueror? I thought the 17" model would cost a lot more than it does... seems pretty affordable for all the stuff you are getting. Built in wireless and bluetooth, 17" screen, 60 gig hard drive, 512 megs of ram, dvd burner, 1ghz, 64 meg geforce video, firewire 2... pretty awesome. and still only 1" thick. it'd be kinda big to lug around, 15" x 10", but 95% of the time it'll probably be sitting on a desk anyway... plus you can do dual monitor with it, so it could easily replace a desktop machine. except for the upgradability of course. but hey, i've had my computer for 3 years and haven't upgraded it at all yet, so upgrading isn't much of an issue for me. i just go out and buy a new system when the old one gets slow it seems. |

Well it was only 2.4 mb! Cool...anyhoo...here's a pic: http://cyblingdesign.com/images/safari.jpg It's still a beta, hence the bug symbol at the top right. I can't see anything wrong with it, it's very simple, a great thing. And i looooove the google search there too! And the teamps logo is at the top left and it imported all my favorites. And the loading bar is the navigatio bar, interesting Thumbs up from me...very fast. Only thing is that it doesn't display how many kb is loaded in a page....i really miss that. |

It's definitely the most minimal interface I've ever seen on a web browser... Very thin. Lots of space for the page to show. Did you download the new iApps too? Most people seem more excited about the mini-powerbook than the big one. I guess because they actually travel a lot. I wouldn't mind lugging around the slightly large 17 incher though. I mean 98% of the time it's going to be sitting on your desk, and then you'll really want that nice big screen. Plus you can do dual monitor with it which is nice. Even at the large size, it will still easily fit into a brief case or backpack. That was one of the main things holding me back from a laptop, was the small screen. But this solves it easily. Screen as big as the iMac, with the option of adding a second external monitor as big as you want. Plus it has the superdrive, and a faster processor than the iMac. Nice 60gb hard drive too. Even bigger than my current hard drive, and it's a laptop! They put in some nice geforce graphics this time too with plenty of video memory. Then you've got the extras like usb 2, firewire 2, built-in wireless with antenaes in the monitor and everything. wow. i'm sold. now i just have to figure out a way to make enough money to buy one before the next greatest thing comes out... that's the hard part. |

800 vs 1 GHz....hmmm. I'm getting the dual 800's - because of costs - but believe me, upgrading from a beige G3 300MHz with 192MB RAM will be fine by me!! :D:D |
