I'm thinking about buying one, too. Are there different models in the Intuos2 and Graphire lines? Or just different sizes? And they're both made by Wacom? And there aren't any major feature differences? Whats the price difference - is it substantial? Whats the best place to buy one (in Canada)? tom |

I had a tablet that I bought for $20 NEW, and I was actually realy satisfied with it. I mean, it had a corded stylus, but aside from that, the accuracy was great, and I never had any lag that was caused by the tablet. All the lag I experienced was simply from the system crapping out on me. Unfortunately though, the thing didn't live very long but I more than got my $20 worth, cuz right outta the box, I made and sold a logo with it. It was then that I shoulda bought a wacom. Also, I was one of the few fortunate enough to learn on a tablet, meaning that al the while that I was learning photoshop, I as also using a tablet. It was a pretty sweet deal. Btw, I think it goes something like this, when it comes to buying a tablet: For general designers, such as those who do mainly graphic design or web design (Meaning actual graphic design such as print material, layout, etc.) either a mouse or a small tabet will work fine, just because you're working in large, ultimately undetailed forms, with relatively no, or few specifically painted details. For those working in digital illustration, ie. Concept design, Animation, Comic Illustration, Industrial design, fashion design, Special Effects, etc. where it's important for a design to have real world details, then it would be in your best interest to buy a larger tablet or artboard. Otherwise, for things like webdesign, and graphic design and layout, a large tablet can be genuinely cumbersome, and ultimately slow you down, whereas a mouse could have done the job with the equal, or greater precision, in half the time. |

i have my little itty bitty graphire2 4x5 and i'm happy. i am mainly digital painting and i don't see a problem with the size. sure i would LIKE to have a big one but it's not in my budget. the bottom line is that if you have the skills it doesn't matter what tools you're using. if you have the money. get yourself the intuos2. if you're a bum like me go for the graphire2. and finally, if you have any sense whatsoever you won't listen to me. ps after reading this thread it has come to my attention that i need a bigger tablet. soooo i brought my wacom sig back from retirement. |
