I'm glad I procrastinated this long at buying a new G4:

Now I want one of these!

I had better clean up all my slobber off my old, beige G3 keyboard... I'm soooo 1998... :(

I'll have a dualie by late September-early October. I'll use the 30 bucks I'll save from not getting the internal 56k modem for a custom side logo imprint.

Im really debating just getting the G4 at a good price. Of course Id give my left nut for a G5, but for finacial reasons, Im leaning for the G4.

*waits for Utopian23 to buy his then steals it when hes not looking*

utopian you're bragging - there's a lot of poor folks out here waiting to catch you on a dark night on a darker alley...will you be carying that machine with you by any chance?
sweet - apple has always been the "apple of my eye" lol - they really did a good thing now...

You could save even more money by buying non-apple memory Utopian, and get that logo imprinted on both sides of the machine or buy an iSight or something. Are they really doing the custom logo stuff? or are you thinking of doing that somewhere else?

We can do it here at work. We have this magic stuff we spray on aluminum and stainless steel, then go over it with the laser and it etches a permanent engraving onto the metal. Pretty slick.

No matter what, Dek, that 400 MHz DDR RAM is going to be expensive. Just once in my life I want to purchase what I want from Apple without really worrying about the price. Plus, it'll be nice to know that everything in the machine will be covered under one warranty that will start as soon as I receive the machine. I've never had any problems with the Macs I've owned, but for a purchase this expensive I'm going to add the $249, 3 year Apple Care extended warranty.

I'll add more RAM later...At some point I'll be (finally) putting some really good audio software and hardware together with this machine.

Go watch the streaming QT video of the keynote...these machines AND the features they've added to Mac OS X are astounding.

Oh I'm definitely not saying they aren't astounding. I just know apple's RAM is always more expensive than anyone else's. But I see what you mean about the one warranty thing. And if you have the money to put into it, it definitely makes sense.

I know I'll probably never be able to afford the top of the line G5 so I've been dream-shopping with the low-end G5. I'd like to know if it's faster than the Dual 1.24ghz G4 though. But the G5 has other features that would make it worth it over the G4 in my opinion anyway. Especially the optical sound and ports on the front of the case. And of course AGP 8x and all that so there is a lot more upgrade options than with the G4.

And I'd probably just go with a nice Sony CRT or something. Apple's monitors are way too expensive for my taste. All LCD monitors are actually. I'll be sticking with CRTs for quite a while most likely.

But yeah Panther looks amazing. They just keep adding more and more stuff to it that you would normally have to buy separately on the PC or even older Macs. Like font management, label printing, faxing, PDF creation (on the PC anyway), video/voice chat (of course MSN 6 does this now too), and of course all the iApps. Pretty damn impressive.
