The edges around that object in #2 are jaggy.

ok, I tried with Blur, and made this Logo.... not really good thou :( |

The whole thing blurred doesn't look all that bad. But if you want to just blur the edges, use the magic wand to select the object (probably have to select inverse to isolate it) and then do Select> Modify> Border and experiment with the number of pixels to affect. Then try using one of the blur filters to smooth it out. You can also use the feather function after you first do Select>modify>border and then use the blur effect. There's a pretty good tutorial here on TP on creating *Planets* that could help you get the basic idea of how to blur those edges. Just experiment with it until you get it looking like you want.
