Another wallpaper-ish pic. Only photoshop was used. This time usnig a singular custom shape layer free transformed a million times within layer sets. The end result is here. Image is 1024x768 and 292KB in size. |

The shape is a simple cresent as depicted here (in raster form). I'm just trying to eke out every little ounce of pseudo 3D renders that photoshop can handle. BTW, files with this many vectors EAT your computer's resources like crazy. Towards the end of finishing this thing, my pc was at a crawl begging for me to stop. |

Long live the Mac! Really Bogus, you need to play with photoshop on a tricked out G4. While I tend to get exactly what you are talking about on the PC's at work...It just doesn't happen on the Mac. I think its just the way the 2 different OS's handle photoshops scratch/cache file. |

You sure a mac would be able to handle the thousands (I'm guessing) vectors seen here better than a pc, eh? Remember this thing is also using layer sets. They also drag down my pc when there's a lot being moved within them. And with this particular graphic, there were several hundred layers inside them. If I had more $$$ I'd probably get a G4 just to be on the same playing feild as most grpahic artists, but I'm still not sold. |

Yeah the money is an issue, or I would have a mac ither than the lil blue imac here at home. But that aside, Try this.... *slow computers DO NOT do this....* <--well you can if you want. >File >New 84 inches X 84 inches at 225 DPI = 1 gig .PSD file (+/- 2 meg) Tell me how long it takes your PC... ANY PC to create that file. |

To simply just "create" the file and not save it, correct? Just do the file>new and then specify the image size. My pc did it in 2 seconds. I'm serious, no joking. Though I am using a 1.3ghz cpu with 768mb ram. I don't have the fastest hd in the world. So if I saved it, I'm certain it wouldn't be that fast to save such a file. |

Thats what I'm talkin about just create it.... none of the G4's at work even blink, they are running ultrawide scsi for their scratch disc but they create the file without a pause, as if I created a 800 X 600 - 72 dpi image... The PC's do sit there for a couple seconds (as much as 90 seconds on a old P2 300 at work on)... I've always wondered about that. But anyway, I think its a cool image.... and I didn't mean to thread-jack you, just the whole memory/scratch usage thing between the Mac and Pc shows up really well when you have huge files or tons of vector layers. And I can't freaking SLEEP tonight! |

Well there ya go right there. I'm only using a 5400rpm IDE drive. Oh, and when I created that image, I had two other images open (one of them being the PSD of that pic in this thread. And the histories weren't purged. Plus I have about 6 webpages open down below, but minimized. It may be faster than this to create that image, but I'm too tired/lazy to make an optimum setting for creating new PS files. |
