Im calling this an experiment cause im not quite happy with it.....plus I just really wanted to take a photo of something lol.

Headphones Experiment

Look first.....then read!

Reasons im not happy: (maybe others feel different)

1) The headphones are black leather (try illuminating something flat black lol) and the cd's are a dark green...so from the start, its really a hard composition to see.

2) The CD in the lower left is poorly placed. It conflicts with the left ear piece...and u cant tell whether its under the ear piece or floating over it.

3) Also, almost in the center of the pic (in the center of the headphones) is the center of a CD. So basically in the middle i have a big ass white circle.....which i think is distracting a bit and kinda of destroys whatever composition i had.

---------------------------------

But i do like the colors!! I got the blue colors in the bottom pic......by putting a sheet of blue plastic over my main light source (it cast a real nice glow over the black headphones) and my 2nd light source was a dull light....which cast that red/orange color over the pic...which i think contrasts nicely with the blue.

On the top pic.....the photo was destaturated and colored blue in ps.

Sexyness, Rodder. Aside from the things you mentioned, that's a great shot. At least now you're a better judge of what placement and lighting works and what doesn't.

I give this thread the big thumbs up.

ye..... good job with those.. i think the one with blue light where the CD's come out a whitish colour is better.... you can see a definite contrast in that one

Well as much as you dont really like it, I think they are pretty sweet. There is a good idea behind the entire photo, but just maybe needed some more work on the lighting and whatnot like you said. I think you did a great job working with what you had though, black objects are very hard to light... and with all of those cds only one being out of place is a pretty good job I think...

Nice work none the less dude

Since it's an experiment why don't you try fixing the things that are wrong with the composition and taking the photo again to achieve something really nice? The placement and objects of choice have great potential.

Ok....here's another attempt.

New Attmpt, Same page as above

I got as much light as i possibly could on it. I had 3 bright white 60 watt bulbs, in a kinda 2 point lighting setup. Also i used B&W because i think the composition is complicated/busy enough.....without adding color.

Entire setup:

- Main light source (1 bulb) on the right, on a ~55 degree angle.
- Camera on same angle about an inch to the left of the main light source.
- 2 bulbs over the entire scene (90 degree angle) providing a little more intense light than the main light source.
- Curved background
- 2 diffusers .... one as a background to catch the light bouncing off the scene ....and a 2nd one catching the light from the left
