So i saw this thumbnail on dev. art.....and it looked something like an eclipse. I wanted to click it so bad but i said screw it. I wanted to see if i could pull it off on my own in PS...without seeing the pic first. Well I made my eclipse...and it was cool but it just wasnt exciting. It was boring and kinda lonely looking. So i decided to take it up another notch. And this is what came out. It's a continuation (series basically) of my last "spacey" image "Torn Between Worlds". Its kinda like a little story...like "the little engine that could" type of thing lol. Also this isnt a really deep image or anything....i just sat back and tried to enjoy it. I just love painting all those little details by hand. Also the text probably blows (as usual lol) but i cant really tell you cause ive been staring at the image too long. I need that "fresh" eye. Anyway C&C is a + (side note - after i uploaded this image...i decided to click that thumbnail and it....LOOKS NOTHING LIKE AN ECLIPSE!! it was some trendy crap lol. I love retarded inpiration! ) Shine! |

You know your artwork is good when people ask you for tutorials on almost every piece you do. I like this one, too, but for some reason IE won't shrink it to fit in my screen so I'm not sure about the composistion relating to the text. (I think its because its an .html page and not a .jpg image.) You do have a period after one sentence and not one after the other. But I'm sure I'm the only one that noticed that. Good work. tom |

yeah the text was done at 5am so it needs some work. Also text is the last thing i put on an image....so by the time i break out the type tool im burned out. Im not sure im completely happy with the solar flares. I think i over did it with the white. It just screams "smudge tool" instead of "solar flare" lol. It does have a nice quality to it though..like a painting or childrens book type feel. Well im going to work on it more today see if i can improve it. Thnx for the input!!! "make a tut for that" you just snuck that right in there lol.....Its a bit to early to tell...it depends on how much i like the image when i finish it lol. |

uh, sorry i don't really like this so much. You took a pic of the moon an play around a bit with the liquify-tool, right? The Space looks like a scratchy tv-screen. I think you should really work on the colors. They are to orange. A real eclipse is almost white. Also you should work on the technique. If i cannot spot the liquify-tool... you used it right OK, i know i am the only one who does not like this work but... who cares i don't like it. |

It's a good piece but it doesn't match the quality of your other stuff. At least thats what I think. tom |

Meh. It's allright. The eclipse looks boring (for an eclipse, anyway). Have you ever seen a real eclipse? The sun really flares around the dark circle. i think. lol Also another thing to keep in mind, the moon which eclipses the sun, which you did in the first pic, you can notice rocky details, probably cloud filter or something. You should take this out and make the circle completely black. Since there is absolutely no light on that side of the moon, there also would be no detail on it as well. You can make the starry background look sharper too. That shouldn't be too much of a deal. |

those details actually are the moon itself (clone). I knew it should be dark black..even more so due to the contrast to the bright sun..but i just wanted a hint of something there...more artistic than accurate i guess. Also the eclipse is supossed to be boring (lol). Its the very beginning of the totality. And to tie in with the meaning...its supposed to be boring and "forgotten". Then it reaches totality and really comes to life....or "shines". Now here is the update. Even though the original white gives it a style (kinda simplistic painting like) and i like it(to a degree)....it just wasnt enough. So i did a re-paint and really brought it to life. Also did a little studying on eclipses/flares/corona/wind etc..and except for the eclipse...there usually isnt any white. Its always variations of red and yellow. Shine! ~120k for the entire page( both images )...original on top...revised on bottom. Edit: Damn email....i didnt get any notice that there were more replies lol. As to pixmap: Hate it all you want :-). Im fine with that lol. I didnt use any liquify (though the smudge tool..is the same thing really). The white is crappy....and as i said before "screams" smudge. The new one def. doesnt. Those are all hand painted /blurred. very little use of smudge. Also just for general info...this isnt supposed to be a Nasa rendering. I took a lot of license with it. |
