The goldish brownish shapes are too rough around the edged...it looks like it was cut out of something or that you did a bad job at extracting something. If it's supposed to be that way then i think you need to make it smooth...If its not supposed to be that way then u should find a way to fix it. I like all the blue tho. What font is that in the bottom left corner and where'd u get it? Also, is there a solid form instead of an outlined form of that font?

I don't like that.

I can't find any thoughts or ideas in the pic. It's just a random mix of errr.... of stuff. Put effort in your work, and design with a reason. Don't just click buttons. Some random things can be cool, but this doesn't look really pretty either. Just put some more effort into it man...

I am not trying to be harsh, but trying to teach you something...

I disagree with NL here. I dont think you have to put effort into all of your work - you can fool around and make some ugly crap in Photoshop and still have it be good for you. How else are you going to learn how to use the filters and layer masks? You can't just go to the filters menu and know what everything does. Not everything you make has to have a reason.

Now I'm not saying you have to post everything. Post things that you like and you think other people will like. Post things that you have a specific question on. Post things that you spent a whole lot of time on. Not everything has to be File>Save As... 'ed right into the forum.

So I think that it would have been more appropriate if NL had said "Put effort into your work, and design with a reason when you plan on posting here."

The ****?? "Design your works for a reason" ??

There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with doing something in photoshop that has no purpose for anything, nor has bearing on anything. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. You could have a piece of art that bewilders some, confuses some, angers some, and overall dissapoints everybody. However, it's still art.

You should see my photoshop folder. There's a whole crapload of files that dont matter, and really, a lot of it could be deleted, but it's always good (and often a lot of fun) to look at old works that you did a long time ago, whether to try to repeat a cool effect, or learn from past mistakes, or just to laugh at yourself.

trhaynes has a point, don't go posting every single damn thing that you make, but do me a favor and disregard NL. Design without a purpose all you want.

Photoshopping is fun - that should be reason enough.

hey now... "Disregard NL"?

First...never disregard any comment!!! Second....NL has an excellent point...and maybe you could learn from it. Yes there is nothing wrong with just making crap. I understand if your new and dont know what every filter does..and just playing with them is a good way to learn. But in the long run...anyone just shy of a monkey can open photoshop and select a filter. Its taking an idea and trying to execute it...that will really teach you how to use photoshop. You dont need some deep meaning behind it or anything...but you do need a purpose. Getting used to the interface + tools is one thing...creating actual art is a whole other matter.

Also last time I checked....TP was about learning and helping each other...not having fun.

What's wrong wtih learning/teaching Photoshop and having fun at the same time?

Plus, yes it is art, even to just have a blank page. Check out a lot of modern art these days. xD But seriously, it's still art. Is it good? Well beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and yeah if you post something that's crap, many people will tell you it's crap.

Creating art is EASY, dude.

It's Creating art that others enjoy and appreciate that's hard to do.

and there's a reason for this, too. Art is 100% a subjective matter, meaning that the right answer depends completely on the viewer. How you consider art should be done - taking an idea and executing it - That's how YOU consider art should be done.

Furthermore, No. You don't need to start out with a plan. I will tell you right now, 80% of the time, when I start a design, I won't even know where to start. I will almost never know where I'm going. At the most I will sketch a deisgn out on paper, but it often never ends up the same way on the computer.

You won't believe how many times I had no plan to being with but ended up with something that others would consider "art." But then again, art is completely subjective, and what one considers "art" another consideres "several random filters applied to a photo". That's why art is so debatible, and I prefer to leave the opinion open for everybody.
