I have a couple of sites that I did and have tested them on many different computers, PC's and Macs and everything looked the way it should. However, recently, I was in the office of a potential client and used her computer with WinXP and a Flatscreen monitor to show her some of my work. Well, to my surprise, some of the detailed graphics looked like I exported at a very low quality setting! There were fringes and shadows around the detail of some of the graphics, very awful looking. I don't understand how this is happening when it looked great on a plethora of other computers. I always make sure to check on many different platforms. I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but I was using her AOL account. is there some setting that "degrades" the graphics of websites by default. I wish I thought to compare my sites with well known ones to see if the same problem existed but in a panic, I quickly closed the browser in AOL!

Anybody have anything like this happen? Does the AOL interface have a setting that degrades the level of graphics to save on file size (but make the graphics look like crap)? Does the use of a flatscreen monitor have anything to do with it? I would hate to have to redesign graphics.....but I will, of course, if I have to! Just so you know, the graphics are high quality! There shouldn't be a problem.

HELP, HELP HELP!! LOL PANK, ANYONE, ANYBODY!

I'll give it a shot, but it shouldn't be doing that in ANY browser, I just don't get it. This makes me think that there might be a setting I need to toggle off in the AOL interface. I'll be there on Monday and I'll see if I can't figure it out. In the meantime, if anybody has any advice.

I used IE in the AOL interface. But as I said before, it shouldn't be doing that at all.

What is the make and model of your flatscreen? Is this the slim version? We have a slim flatscreen at work and everything looks different on it.

Don't know the make or model but it is a slim screen. So you know what I'm talking about then.....phewwwww! lol.... Now I just have to figure out what the hell to do to make the graphics look better than they did.

here's the URL for the site I'm working on now for a client. The basic layout is up, but it doesn't have content. This one looked really bad on the flatscreen. Tell me how it looks to you if you could. I know this is not usually the place to post sites, but considering my circumstances, I'm sure the moderaters understand why I'm posting it here!

The problem is linked with AOL...

First OAL broswer work in a prety strange way eityh images... all images are converted to a single fomat (an oal format called .art)... Alos On the internet OAL kepp all visited page in a cache on its own server (I belive they do this for speed...

Even with all this its should not be a huge problems...

Check out the book: Designing Web graphics by LLynda Weinman you will find more infoon this...

Thanks very much for the feedback. I have an older version of the Lynda book and I'll see if there is a section on it in that version. I didn't think of that!

Thanks for the multiplatform check! You're saving me some time with your report, I very much appreciate it!

I anxiously await your observations!
