Hello All, I would really love to make a fading grid in Photoshop 6 due to myself needing a really good signature. Can anyone help me please? |

Just gonna tell you up front, having a grid in a sig wouldn't qualify it as a good sig 100% of the time, it all depends on how well it's executed. So anyway: Probably one of the easier ways is to create a pattern then fill in the area you want with that pattern. Figure out how large you want the gridboxes to be (it could range from a 3x3 box to a 100x100 box, but, let's be reasonable eh?) and make a New Photoshop Document with the dimensions X-1, Y-1, (where X and Y are the width and height of the grid.) Make the background color black. Make 2 adjacent white lines that are on the inside border of the document. So that It would resemble something like: |_ Now do Select->All (CTRL+A), Edit->Define Pattern. Enter a name or leave it default and click OK. Open the image you want to apply the Grid to. Select the area then go to the Channels window, and Fill the selection with the pattern (Edit->Fill or use the Paintbucket tool). Once you do that, click the Load Selection button on the bottom of the Channels window, then return the main document. Create a new layer and Fill the current selection with a color of your choice. Then deselect (CTRL+D). You would now have a grid. To make it Fade out, I believe it was CTRL+Click the grid layer, then press Q to go into Quick Mask mode, then apply a gradient until you reach your desired image. |

Make the Grid: Make a new file say 10 pixels by 10 pixels then zoom in on it so you can see it better. make a 1 pixel line across the top and another 1 pixel line down one of the sides so it looks like an upside down "L". Now go edit > define pattern now name it and hit ok Now open the image you want to put the grid on and add a new layer. Once you're on that layer go edit > fill select pattern from the drop down and navigate to the pattern you just made and hit ok. This should make a grid patten for you. To fade it: You can use the erase brush with a soft brush, set the opacity of the brush down to like 25%, it's on the option bar once you click the erase brush. Now you can go over the grid and erase the parts you want to fade. OR Get the gradient tool, under the paint bucket. Now go up to the gradient editor on the option bar and click on it, this will open the gradient editor. Now select one of the color stops, an arrow below the colored bar about half way down. Now select what ever your background color is, so the fade will blend with your background. Now go to the opacity stop, one of the arrows on top of the colored bar, be sure to select the one that's on the opposite side of the color you picked. Click on it and set the opacity to 0. Hit ok. In the layer palette make a new layer above your grid. With the gradient tool still selected click > drag across your image, this will fade the grid. Now just play around with it until you get something you like. |

to set the x and y to 1 if you hit ctrl+T to transform something, in the option bar, up top you will see a place for the x and y coordinates, change it there.
