You're welcome.

Czak posted the same link as you did in your first post. You were linking to a file on your local hard drive, not a web site, that's why side-fx said what he said. I think he was also having a bad day though. Or perhaps he was riled up by his arguments with The DPQ. Either way they are both sorry.

*throws up hands* I can't help it if i'm bitchy by nature. If he gets riled up by me just talking and critquing i'm going to have him in tears by the end up the week if i do ever get into a real spat with him. (just you wait 'eny 'iggen just you wait)

and i second the notion, that was stupid. I dunno it wasn't exactly 'look at my C drive' link.I mean mygod he even added the http. I just find that funny.

FearAndBullets:The ol 'ne ner ne ner your work sucks so you MUST be wrong. BS hmm?
I don't believe he was talking about your graphics still when he said that since its obvious no one can see the image.

sidefx :*pokes you with a stick and watches you twitch* what the hell do you even care what i say in the first place to even get pissy with me. Gonna learn to take blunt comments my friend.

Hey go ahead. It just seems lame that you would ignore someone just for thinking it stupid to ONLY ask and only care about how old someone is.

Don't blame me because you asked a stupid question.

fear and bullets, the army has a huge array of pictures lying around on the web (at least the canadian army does, one can only assume the american army has more), you could always look around there, find some photos you like and email them asking permission to use them.

I've found all sorts of neat things, landscapes, sunsets, trees, you name it.

alrighty already...
It seems like I made a grave mistake when I didn't have the url from the image I was trying to show everyone, so I tried to paste it and obviously that didn't work. So, I tried to grab a url of a different site and when I put in the ...aww hell...nevermind.

My bad. I ended up getting on the defensive when I mistook the replies. When I was referred to as a "newbie" it's a newbie to the forums and not to the 8 years of photoshop. And yes, I agree with that. I was already frustrated because of my years of experience and I had to resort to ask a design question -pride i guess. And I didn't need anybody spouting off calling me a newbie...which nobody really did that. I was just mainly...well you get the point.

-sorry for the stink

Could have been worse. Your face turned a bit red, we all got to scowl a bit at each other, but otherwise no harm done. You learned you lesson. Not checking your work (or posts for this matter) is probably one of the most common way someone gets a bad impression tacked onto their personality. I have a horrible habit of doing that. Spelling, broken images, or just wierd working in general. lol **** happens. Atleast you didn't blow up.

Back to the question at hand. How did they do those graphics in photoshop? There isn't an easy explanation for either of them other than them being simply a large mass of layered grapihcs piled on top of each other. Some of it seems to be straight photoshop graphical elements, while the 3D stuff may or may not be rendered from a 3D program and then imported into Photoshop. Some usage of layer masking and blending modes are probably taking place as well.

There is no easy and fast way to do these sorts of digital collages, it just takes a lot of time and effort to make enough unique elements to throw into a piece to create them.

My suggestion is look into tuts that focus on layer modes.

Alot of times those 'oh so cool' wallpapers are nothing more than some cheap tricks. Some images thrown together with a few layer modes and a texture or random lines thrown in.
