I have photo of person. I would like to add shadow, border (maybe round, solid).

Is this possible?

Make your round selection like you would have the image.

CTR+J (this will copy your selection to a new layer)

now turn off the "background" layer

for a border CTR+click the thumbnail image in the layers paller of the newly created layer. this will give you your selection back. now stroke that selection.

for a shadow....

Double click the "right" side of the newly created layer....bringing up the "layer styles" pallet

apply the drop shadow

Sorry I'm late, I missed your reply to my post.

thank you very much. As I'm new to this, please inform me how to do
1. turn off the "background" layer (buttons?)
2. or a border CTR+click the thumbnail image (how?)

As I'm new to this where is this?

You will need to spend some time reading the "help" files in order to learn your way around the photoshop interface.

Here is the answer to questions 1 and 2

and if you will initially make your selection with round corners then yes, the border can have round corners. I thought we were talking about a circle here.

If you are double clicking on a "text" layer... the layer effects will not apply to the "image"
