Hi. Thanks for your great advice! I haven't really worked with channels, alpha channels and adjustment layers so it would be great if you could tell me how and why i should use it. Another question: if i use alpha channels is it possible to get the "skratches" in a layer with transparent background? coz i think that the effect looks much better in blending mode: overlay than with screen, but with my scan i get a black background and that's look pretty strange when i set the layer in overlay mode. The reason why i need to know how to create this effect is that i will use it on a cd cover and if you help me out to get a good result you will personally get a thank you in the booklet and a copy of the cd when it's done. Once again thanks for your great advice! All the best. // Jonny - www.plannine.net |

Can someone post the results you're getting using the 'scanned' texture overlay? Thanks. :D |

ctrl-i will invert your image, i.e. black bg becomes white. Yeah, post an image and we can have a bit better idea of what you're trying to do or what it's doing. chris |

OK - you don't paste the channel into the layer directly. You load it as a selection and fill this selection with white in your new Overlay layer. step by step instrucions ... 1 First you should get your scan visible in the document on its own. Switch off the other layers 2 Next switch to the channels palette and duplicate one of the channels (drag it onto the new channel icon at the bottom of the palette) Choose a channel with the maximum contrast and good greyscale data 3 Now do the levels adjustment on the new channel until your lines look right. invert it (control I) if necessary. 4 Load the channel as a selection.Do this by Control clicking the new channel. 5 Now go back to the layers palette and back to composite view again. Your selection marching ants should still be visible. 6 Now choose white as your foreground and fill the selection on a new layer. 7 Change the layer mode to overlay. This is how it should have been done - I didnt realise you were so new to PS before. If you want to use the layer you made before you can simply choose the magic wand, select the area (contiguous off) and delete all the black. Or even use the magic eraser tool. You now have the white plastic folds you were looking for. You can also duplicate the Overlay layer or try Color Dodge mode too - for a more dramatic effect. I see why this effect looks cool with your image by the way - like it! |
