hmmm.... the idea that a graphic designer is a photoshop ace is interesting... being a photoshop ace is a bonus, but ps is only a tool for graphic design. First and foremostly graphic design is done in someone's head NOT in a .psd!

So you could build, say, a car from soap? :p You do need to know how to handle your tools in order to make a product. But on a philosophical level, you're right. |

So graphic design as a job only exists since PS 1.0? Funny, I seem to remeber using a photocopier, paint, lots of glue and other stuff a while back But your right, I see your point, in todays society a graphic designer not knowing how to handle himself in PS will have a hard time, true. I was merely trying to make a point of the fact that graphic design is more than using PS to make 'cool' looking images

You're absolutely right. Adobe could strip photoshop from 50% of the tools and filters and whatnot, and it'd probably make "cool websites" alot more cool. :p And by no means is photoshop the only tool for a designer, it all depends on what kind of a designer you are of course. Making "cool graphixx" has nothing to do with design anyway, people who know how to make a wallpaper with a popstar on it are "graphic designers" in their own heads nowadays. < /random babble> And another fact is, of course, that just knowing how to use your tools doesn't mean you make good results. I'm guessing half of the people that know photoshop (or any other application for that matter) inside and out, have no idea on the fundementals of design. Maybe it's visa versa too somewhat, people that have studied design for years are missing out on the methods due to inferior knowledge of the apps they use. Why am I talking this much random crap all of a sudden? *locks himself into a box* |
