Okay guys, instead of just asking questions I'm actually going to show you what I have before I ask.

Here is what I have:

http://www.freewebs.com/stk15/design.jpg

I created that using a custom gradient and the pen tool (which is pretty easy now after some practice.

I am trying to get a glass/metallic effect on that but don't know how. Please help.

(someone move this to "website showcase")

1) It's best to make all your layouts at 800x600. You get a good sense of how it will look on most people's screens and it's much easier to work with.

2) It's always a good idea to add text so you can see what it will look like for real.

3) Add more color. Try to get a cohesive color scheme.
www.colorwhore.com <----Great site

Good start! Keep working!

Telemakhos, thanks (never though I'd say that to you) for the link to that site, good tool for picking colors. I guess now I'm going to try just duplicating the selected a bunch and experiment with differnet blend modes.

Subtle Hint:
Hypothetically, let's says someone (we'll call him "harif") was a novice graphic designer and had little experience with Photoshop, joined some forums (let's call them "Meb Hosting Talk forums") and posted to try to get a job. Now what if (purely hypothetically), "harif" decided to say that he was a graphic designer for hire? Would that not (hypothetically of course), be misleading? Should that course of events ever take place?

But of course this is all hypothetical.

Subtle Hint #2 (for "harif"): Before advertising yourself as a graphic designer, get some more experience.

Subtle Hint #3 (for "no one in particular"): If you still want to do it, consider using different nicknames on different forums.

Hey Swanky,

Look, I might be a crappy artist at the advanced stuff like the special effects BUT I am good at the basics. Check out http://www.paragoncity.com

That was my first paid job.

You need to make the web url at the bottom actually link to a page - just a fyi sharif

*edit* the paragon city site at the bottom sharif.

Might be nice if you could show something other than the personal sites and games sites on your own hallowed space Tele. You offer a lot of services, would it not seem common sense to show prospective clients what you are capable of or some indication as to your style. Merely a thought.
