Drew, just save as a .gif from the "save for web" save in Photoshop. The tutorial or article may have been written a while back, but .gifs are the standard way of saving an image without any background. Just remember to make sure there is no background on your image, then in the gif dialogue box (just select gif from the drop down menu.) then make sure the checkbox for "transparency" is checked. Dont let the color #'s and dithering confuse you. Basically start small and increase the number of colors (256 maximum) when the image looks good. If you add too many colors it wont use them all, unless you have more than 256 colors needed. So you will max out your colors. np. File size may be bigger then. but no biggie. Just play with the settings a bit to get a feel of what they do. Just make sure you are viewing the 'optimized' image (there are some tabs at the top of the image screen.) so you can see what the settings are doing to the image. No need to change file extensions unless you know what you are doing. But you can't turn an orange into an apple by painting it red. =) |

Of course you could also use a PNG instead of a GIF as these have better transparency (alpha I believe) functions whereas GIF transparency is binary only (ie on or off)

yeah, but if you save in any format besides .png or .gif it will kindly put a white background back on for you =) Yes and png's are another good choice. You'd get better results for more colors. .gif's are really best for images that have distinct lines, few colors, and text. |

If you are bent on using the gif89 plug it is located on your cd. Just drop it in your plug's folder ;)
