the following links show the teaser cover from "the world is not enough": (1)James Bond Cover - small and (2) James Bond Cover - 800x600 my question is: how can u imitate this fire exactly ? I want to use the fire for another person in my own pic. I produced some nice fire styles but none of them match exactly. maybe s.o. can help... thx a lot |

Your kinda in luck (got the world is not enough poster on my wall lol). It could possibly be real fire (stock footage...something shot for the movie) heavily modified in photoshop....but here is how i would fake it. First you need to mask your figure so you can paint inside of it. Next fill the figure with a base color of orange/red. (you could even experiment with a linear gradient of orange and a reddish/orange). Next you need to paint some yellow streaks (seperate masked layer) with a medium sized soft brush. Then play with the wave filter (not too much...you can always press ctr-f to apply the filter again..so start small). After the wave filter...keep painting yellow (this time a hard..small brush) and paint in the smaller streaks. After you have the figure filled...go in with the blur and smudge tools to soften the effect. Also you may want to apply a wave again....just incase you painted straight streaks...cause flames are never straight. Also i should add you could use a vertical motion blur to get you going. And you will want to concentrate on details(with the small..hard brush)!! Being messy wont look as good as some "well defined" fire. Here is an example I just did. (keep in mind i did it in about 5 minutes) Bond Fire Example |

yeah the right one is mine. Actually it kinda makes me wonder how much money the graphics company (if they hired one...i doubt it was an inside job) got for the poster? I mean if i spent maybe 4-5 days I could definitely match the quality of that poster. Actually this is really helpful for Valmont4L....cause with a little amount of time he/she should be able to pull off the effect quite well. |

u've got the poster on ur wall ? another bond fan..lol...that's good thx a lot for your answer - I'll go on and do it like u told me. ;) yeah, it looks like real fire...really professional. I used the wave filter, but as u said, u have to paint in some yellow streaks...I already wondered how they produced this detailed streaky fire cuz the effect looks random. your example is great - question:did u use the same girl model for this clone ? cuz her hair and her head look kinda different...a little bit....don't know. did u produced the effect by using the same instructions u gave me here ? once again: thx! |

it's me again: You wrote I should fill the figure with a base color of orange/red, even experiment with a linear gradient of orange and a reddish/orange. Don't u have to use a linear gradient cuz if u only use a base color of orange u have no dark red colors ?...or what do u suggest ? -Did u use the linear gradient in ur "5minutes clone" ? If so then there is another problem for me: the dark red is either on the top or on the left or right or below, of course depends on where u start, but the gradient is not regular everywhere...know what I mean? I tried it like u wrote but it's hard for me to get a really similar effect. :( I can't believe u did it only in about 5 minutes...wow  |

Yeah. She was on a black background...so i selected the black color and inverted the selection to get the silhouette. Then i just used that as my mask. The reason the head/hair look different is cause i quickly hand painted those in. And yes...I made my example the same way i said in my post earlier. I suggested a gradient to give the effect some nice variation (fire has a lot of colors ..for ex: fire is hottest when its blue...then white...then red..then the coolest part of the flame is orange). But you dont have to. The reason is the base color you wont see much. The variation in color really comes from the yellow cause some of the parts will be bright yellow..some will be a faded yellow..etc. To answer your question...I actually did not use a gradient. I just filled the selection with orange. Its really kinda about experimenting here. Also if you have your base color on a seperate layer(and the yellow streaks on a layer above) then at the end you can try out a gradient or a flat color. You can quickly change the background color to see what you like without having to do it all over again. If it would help...id be glad to throw together a quick tutorial w/pics of each step. |
