All you have to do is select the type tool, then click once on your work area. Then type away. But if you are this new, I would suggest buying a book or doing some basic tutorials to familiarize yourself with the tools. Have fun learning.

Doesn't Photoshop come with literature when you buy it?

If you are all serious then you should shut up for being elitist pricks.

Not everyone can afford Photoshop and for a lot of people, pirating it is the only way they'll get the opportunity to learn how to use it, and if you can't use it, how are you going to get a job as a graphic designer (if that's what you want to do).
Some people just use it casually, like just to play around with, why should they fork out £530 for it.

LA!

I'm poor so I feel strongly about this kind of STufF.
Rant over.

BYEEEEE!!

Hmmm, possible "hot discussion" on the way here ?

Just to get plp started, I agree wiz all the posted opinions, hehe.
1. Do not pirate stuff (if so, do not go out and show it off, that's dumb 'cuz a fact of the matter is that it is not legal !!!).
2. Some proggs really are overpriced, don't ye think ? I mean take a music cd as an example here in sweden it costs 'bout $ 15-20 (!!!) and I saw on TV that it costs 'bout $ 2-3 to produced, that is to get it ready to sell it. Where's the sencible in that...

everything is overpriced. 3D programs come in at higher prices (over $1,000). But thats the way it is if you want quality.
Pirating is pathetic. If you just want to mess around with graphics, why break the law? You don't need to show the artwork off if it's just a mess around, so use paint or something or a program in your budget(there's a lot of graphics programs that's cheap...Paint Shop Pro is only £39 in the UK).

I mess around in graphics but I actually bought Photoshop. It set me back a few hundred quid for a few month but it was my money, my decision.

The same thing applies to computer hardware - it'll cost something like 50 bucks or even less to create a Pentium 4, and the other hardware in a computer for just over 200 bucks. and they charge 1000 - 2000 bucks.

It's just the way things are!
