Okay got it moochan, So basically this is exactly wot I did: 1. created new image 2. filled it with black 3. created new layer 4. created the shape in new layer 5. wanted to fill the shape but it said i had to "rasterize" the shape/layer. So i chose (correct me if I shouldnt be doing this) : rasterize > shape 6. Filled the shape up with whatever tool adn than used my layer effects. I used emboss, I dunno the results werent kicking. I know you dont use layer effects; damn you, your good! :D -mike  |

Umm, emboss? why... If you're going to use emboss, just keep anti-aliasing on so it appears smoother. I thought you wanted the pixel-look. What exactly do you want to do? If it's the pixel emboss thing, then it's all done manually. The reason why I don't use the layer effects is that it doesn't appear natural. If you want to make highlights, shading, etc, it's best to learn how to do it with the gradients and/or gaussian blur.

On your site, at the very bottom of the page you have 2 tables next to each other one is pointing to your pixel cow and the other to your free patterns your giving out. now you got those sweet looking designs like such: _________ / \ | | |_________ | If you see what I mean, its those diagonal edges you got going w/ a slight highlight that I see and i believe your using inside shadow as well as outside 1px? I notice thats getting popular I wanted to know how to make those edges. I do now, but for some reason when I do the following: make new image w/ black background create a new layer chose the pen tool, held shift made my diagonal cuts. Now the lines itself are red, so its just red skinny 1 px lines. Now I want to fill that shape up but it wont let me because it has that circle with the X on it as an error msg and says the shape your editing is not editable. Im getting stuck at that. I want a smooth looking edge actually not pixel-ish...there was a site check actually on here and the guy who designed his site had also diagonal cuts. Lemme see if I can find that link and post it for ya. Thanks again for all the help bro! -mike |

:D http://rdj.neophx.com/ Right there! Now see how he has those cuts where it says RDJ Designs in the white box and on the left of it near the scroll bar it has a diagonal cut. How do you make it sharp and highlited like that? And again he has some more diagonal cuts on the top of the page. But again, I want to make a table where it has those cuts on top right and left side. Thanks again for any help now that i got the confusion out of the way. -mike |

Okay, first, lose the pen tool and lasso for a moment and use the Line tool and the Pencil tool. For the Line tool, set it to 1px, with anti-aliased unchecked. Also make sure it's on "Fill Pixels" (on the options bar in PS7, there is a set of buttons on the left, the right-most one of those should be Fill Pixels). It's best to work at a high magnification, like 300%, 400% (I do some works at 1600%). Now, you'd draw the lines like how you'd want it to be, then using a suitable shadow color (like gray), draw a line directly to the left and above the lines you drew, so it looks like it has some sort of shading. Zoom out and it should come out like that. |

Looks great Just practice it so that you can utilize those techniques and make sites where people wouldn't think it's all just pixel art.
