There is a problem that both microsoft and Adobe acknowledge with more than 1000 fonts on the windows platform. They both kind of point the finger at one another though. I personally have only actually run into the "bug" when using Adobe Pagemaker. Pagemaker gives a "cannot initialize" error. The fix is to go in and move a couple hundred fonts to another folder, reboot.... and then launch Pagemaker. The shut pagemaker down, replace your moved fonts back into the fonts folder and try Pagemaker again.

Axiom's fix works great, but I suggest something like ATM (Adobe type Manager) so you can turn them on and off. I have it set up where I have "font sets". How you seperate your sets is up to you. By client, typeface, alphabetically..... whatever. I have client specific font sets for the most part. So I just activate the set I need for that client. I have VERY few fonts in my Windows font folder. (and I dont get that nasty pagemaker error anymore)

Hope this helps.

I can understand people who do alot of print work needing a utility like ATM and storing large amounts of typefaces. But I don't think the average user who visits this forum has any use for 1000+ fonts. I say, pick a couple fonts that go together well and use them.

I have a crapheap 400mhz Gateway still and I have 2,729 fonts on it. But daddy's gonna get an Alienware this summer. I want a Mac, but I can't afford to buy all this software again. I have so many because I have this thing with Typography. No one should get used to just a couple of fonts. Sometimes I take hours just picking the font that looks the best with the work I'm doing.

Do you have a font that can play games? I'd like to get one.

Is there some preferences thing somewhere where you can change the limit of the # of fonts you can have?
