Hey, does a PC have a font max? I heard it's something ridiculous like a thousand or something. I'm approaching 350 and I was wondering if I'm gonna crash this machine or what. anyone? thanks |

Not sure what's the max, but for a pc, the more font you have, the slower the startup and the pc's performance. And PS starts slower too |

I got a nice little program from ZDNet called AKFontViewer. I type in my text, and I get to see what it looks like in all my fonts. I have most of my fonts memorized, meaning I know what style a font is by looking at the name, and vice versa. I recently cleared out some fonts I never use to make room for new ones and my font folder is exactly 65,585,750 bytes, containing 1,075 files. I have Photoshop using 300Mb of RAM so it starts up and runs in a jiffy.

Here is a great idea for you folks. To keep your windows/font folder a decent size, so you don't kill your windows start up speed, put all your fonts that you will be using in photoshop into the c:\program files\common files\adobe\fonts I know it's there in windows 2000 and windows xp. As for 98, you will probably be stuck with them in the fonts folder. Of course, doing this, you will only be able to access the fonts with adobe products. |
