When/if I lose my mind and foolishly pick up the phone to hear either silence or a telemarketer start into their pitch, its immediate hang up time. I don't even say a word.

Walls.ell I hope you like recieving the call again and again. I know what I'm talking about I was one of them, follow what I've told you and you should recieve at least 90% less calls.

I usually just hang up on them. Though if I was bored I think it would be best to act interested and ask more and more questions, then at the very end say you aren't interested. That way you waste their time... Time they could have used making a real sale with someone else. I say if they are going to call and waste my time, then I should waste their's. I think soon I will just answer the phone and then just lay it down and let them talk until they hang up. That way it just wastes their time.

We've been doing what you suggested for a while now. You're correct, it does greatly reduce the number of calls. I don't ask to talk to the supervisor (takes too long), I just ask their name and politely ask to be removed from their call list. By law, they must remove you.
