Here are some of my suggestions for names... I'll think about the rules as the day goes on a little more. Digital Duel Vector Violence Bezier' Boxing/battle Super Pixel Battle: Melee "Martial Art" Creative Combat Render/raster Ruckus Bitmap Boxing/Battle And my personal favorite, either: Bob Pankala's Pixel Punchout or Teamphotoshop's Pixel Punchout |

Bob Pankala's Pixel Punchout - i love it! it's kind of corny and doesn't sound so serious that it is geeky! here are my thoughts... -i like the idea of being able to choose from 3 set dimensions. i think it is very important that the contestants work on a piece the same size. i have a bad feeling that people will inadvertantly overlook a small piece in favor of a larger one. -i think anything you can import or cut-and-paste in to photoshop should be allowed. illustrator, 3d work, digital photos, scans, pencil sketches, anything. there is no reason to limit things that much. just because someone has access to more programs does not mean they will produce better work! plus, i work a lot in illustrator and import into photoshop. i am not going to try and half-ass it in photoshop just to follow some rules. -nudity is allowed but no porn -i would favor a panel of 11 judges. they can be nominated and picked somehow. -having people vote by posting is a good idea. that way they can leave comments and we (gasp!) might learn something. a straight up poll can't do that. -the most important rules are image dimensions, subject and time limit. |

I had a big long post written up, then lost it. So this one will probably be shorter so I don't get angry... Well if we stuck with the fight club rules, then there could only be one fight at a time. But we also couldn't wear shirts or shoes. I think there should be more than one fight going on at a time. Otherwise it will get boring waiting like 3 days for the next result. I think they should be staggered though so that there are results coming in every day. ------------------ For example: challenge 1 is made. The person challenged has 24 hours to accept or decline. After 24 hours, if the challenge is accepted, the competitors begin their designs. At the same time, challenge 2 is made and 24 hours are given to accept or decline. Another 24 hours and the results are in. The 24 hours voting period begins. Challenge two is started. Challenge 1 is made. Another 24 hours and the votes are in and a winner is declared. Challenge 1 is over. Challenge two enters voting phase. Challenge 2 results are in, etc etc. ------------------ That would only work if we have enough challenges to do one every day. And it would be kind of confusing to keep track of, but I think it would be more interesting to watch. We could have one forum set up for "challenges" then the sub-forums of those could be the different phases. Then we just move the threads to the different forums as they progress. Challenges Active challenge waiting to be accepted Participants actively working on their designs results are in/voting completed challenges There should definitely be 3 or so set sizes to work with. They can be chosen by the challenger. I also like the idea of having a set ruleset to choose from. I also think the 24 hour period should start at a set time each day, no matter when the actual challenge was made. Say someone makes a challenge at 9:00am. Nothing should happen until say 2:00pm if that is the time chosen for everything to switch over. That way everyone knows that at 2:00pm every day, there will be new results up, there will be something new to vote on, and there will be a new challenge. Otherwise it will be hard to keep track of anything if one starts at 9:00am, one starts at 2:00pm, and one starts at 1:00am. I don't know about other programs being allowed. I mean if you have a 3d program, you are going to be able to do things that other people without them aren't. I don't really have a problem with illustrator, because photoshop has vector tools as well. I think photos and scans should be an option of the challenge. You can have straight photoshop, or anything goes. I think animated GIFs should be allowed. There should be no file size limit. What is the incentive of playing? Should we all put our record in our sigs? 2 wins 3 ties 1 loss |

Unless its already been used somewhere, I think Bob picked the best name before we started! PIXEL WARS Nice play on the Junk Yard Wars name I think. Here's my $1.29 worth In a previous life, I had quite a bit of time with online gaming ladders (I still can't believe there are professional teams!). There's a few key ingredients I think we're missing. 1) I like the idea of a std list of formats (size, colors, filters/no-filters)--I personally want to compete in the "Minimum 10 plug-in Filters Req'd" category... but, the choice of the format should not be the challenger's--it should be the defenders choice. He's defending his honor, it should be on the field of his choosing. 2) I think we should have a ladder. People can challenge their way up the ladder to Photoshop Glory! I know, I know; more administration--so get an admin everyone trusts! Any volunteers? Maybe we could get www.worldogl.com,www.provinggrounds.com, or www.teamplay.net to put a ladder category up for us, then we'd just report the wins / losses there--it would do the challenges, the match scheduling, and everything! Anyone got any admin contacts with a gaming ladder? Think of the influx of new teamps members... Media Temple would be pulling their hair out! 3) I opinionate that no 3D should be allowed. Vector progs would be fine, but you must finish with PS. Scanned art, photos, whatever okay--but credit for used art must be in the image. |

I don't think we should use a third-party site to do the challenges. Especially a public ladder site. We'd have tons of people joining that we never ever heard of before and it would be total chaos. I think the competition should definitely stay within the members of TeamPS. An internal ladder system wouldn't be too bad. Especially if we did it like I said earlier. That way there would only be one result per day, so you would only have to change one thing per day. And I still like Bob Pankala's Pixel Punchout for the name. |

It isn't too wordy... The original was Mike Tyson's Super Punchout. People just called it Punchout. So we can call this Punchout. Pank's Pixel Punchout is 'ok' I guess. I think the longer form is funnier though.
