Ok, let's do this thing. Here is what we need to decide... a. what do we call this... (i.e., some spin off of fight club would be cool, like pixel club) you guys come up with something clever... b. this "won't" be automated. Too many headaches to code and I really don't see the need. So I'm thinking a forum area with 2 "sub" forums. One the challenge area (where you guys pick your fights), and Two the posting area. (nobody posts there except when a challenge has been accepted. Then no posting until the entries are done, then we all vote. Thoughts on this... c. A set of rules. Organized rules. Like a time deadline, picture details, etc. The way I'm thinking of it we have the challenge (two people, one challenges the other, the other accepts). We pick a random topic for the image. The two have one day (let's say 7:00 pm after the challenge starts) to complete their pic. Posts have to be in by then. Nobody posts except the two involved. Once the deadline comes we all start voting. I'd say by just posting our choice. Polls can be manipulated and cheating can occur. I think it would be much more honest to just count up posts at the end of lets say a two day deadline. Other rules we need to think of, file size. Photoshop only pics? Photo manip, or raw pixel power? All these things we need to think of. d. Anything else you guys/gals think of. I really do like Neil's idea to do this so let's make it happen. We will all work on this together as a group as far as the development. So, everyone speak up and let's get this puppy rolling One thing I'd suggest is that we decide whether we want multiple challenges going on at once or just do one at a time. If we do one at a time it will be easier to follow but we'll get backed up in the challenge area I'm sure. So we need to think of all this ahead of time... |

Grrr!.... that's who I was gonna choose! Man! I like the idea of "one at a time". It'll be like a 3 day event! W00T! Can these forums be set to hold the post untill a moderator approves it? Not ALL the forums.... just like... the challenge area. That would take care of the backlog before it happens. Are we still talking about doing the random word thing? Image size: I think something like 700 px "width" maximum would be cool, then they would be too small to be stolen and "pushed" as wallpapers without the creators consent. Mabey something like 700 "w" x 500 "h"? Photoshop only? I say "yes".... this is teamPHOTOSHOP.com.... not team 3D MAX. RPP (Raw Pixel Power), Photo Manips, Freehand tablet-drawn art....whatever.... just as long as it is Photoshop. Timeline? Challenge made --> challengeeeeeeee has 24 hours to respond Accepted -> How do we know both people are aware of the acceptance?.... I guess we wait another 24 hours after acceptance. Working --> Now 24 hours for them to create their art (48 hours from acceptance) (3 days down) Posting --> Art is posted "No Later" than 48 hours from acceptance. Voting --> 48 hours for voting to take place winner announced on the 6th day. (one battle per work week) "Weekly Wars" |

I do think it needs to be Photoshop only. And I think specific rules need only be set for the individual contest. Its up to the person who creates the challenge to decide what can and can't be used as external media in the contest. Such as photos or extra plug-ins. A scanner should be allowed if the challenge requires photographic material not supplied with the contest. External software, beyond scanning software should be banned. Vector artwork should only be done in PS, and no 3D renders. Unless of course, the challenge makes clear that they are allowed. In this situation, nobody can call foul SO long as they state what can and cant be used in the challenge with the original challenge post. If the person neglects to specify parameters, then the person who takes the challenge cannot get in trouble for using external media. But there are defaults. As I said in the 1st paragraph, no external software unless stated specifically. I think it should be just a simple sticky post in the challenge forum that has a numbered list of stuff that has to be filled out before the challenge is posted. The challenge creator simply copy/pastes the text into a new thread and fills it out. |

Well I don't think the challenger should be able to pick the methods/media used, except to pick a specific level. We could just make it so that the challenger picks a certain level (not a level of expertise or a level of challenge so to speak), but just a level. Maybe level is not the word I'm looking for, but the challenger would just pick, say #1 or #2. #1) 500 x 500 pixels, 256 colors, no outside media types (i.e. 3D), stock photos allowed, 2 days #2) 50 x 50 pixels, 16 colors, no outside media types (i.e. 3D), no stock photos allowed, 1 day #3) 800 x 800 pixels, unlimited colors, Photoshop only, no stock photos, no fancy plugins, filters are fine, 3 days I'm not saying these are good choices, but you DO understand what I mean. If Deker wanted to challenge me, he would say he wanted a level 2 challenge to Mattboy_Slim....that just makes the whole challenge process easier. |
