Play both ends against the middle..... I would... Call the first dude... Tell him: Hey, I really want to start for you wednesday, but I got a pretty good offer just minutes after getting off the phone with you... If you can match the ....hmmm..."16" bucks an hour they offered me, we have a deal and I'll be there Wed. If not, I thank you for giving me the opportunity. Or something like that..... |

Yeah, i know what you mean Axiom. I have been working with IT Contracting/ Head-hunters for the 4 years I have been in the field. It's either feast or famine, back in my first year I landed a job with a company building new weapons control systems for the Navy's Tomahawk cruise missles. Only paid $15 and hour ( desktop/network techs make anywhere between $15 and $21 an hour, on average )but I could have all the OT I wanted, I don't think they planned on me working 40+ a week OT! :D Before I that I have a few piddley jobs that barely gave me money to eat, I bounced around alot over the next few years and now I am permenantly employed with one of the largest helpdesks in the country making $42K to sit on my ass and tell morons how to change their network passwords. (Sorry if I offend anyone but hey, it ain't brain surgery!) I would definitely angle for the cash, but contracting is a good way to build a nice resume, worked for me anyways. It's All About The Benjamins Baby! PXM |

See which job has the better potential for long term stuff so you don't have to go through this again in a few months... Or at least until you find something full time you can stick with. Either way good luck Monkey-Spank...

well, it went like this The one job I am positive I have is 6 months and could possibly become a permanent position. If that was the only factor, I wouldn't think twice about taking it. But, I was talking to my supervisor at the company I subcontract for and he said that the guy told him that his boss was coming into town tomorrow and would inform him if the position would be dissolved or not. After that, the guy from Ikon would call me and let me know if I could start on wenesday. The lady from the insurance company said the terms of this contract were 7-9 months, but nothing about it going permenant. Either way, something could happen. Both could give me a garunteed 6 months and 3 months down the road they start releasing people from contracts. |

Eeny-meeny-miney-Moe-->Just pick one and go Ax go. As soon as you start though, start looking for another job if you're not entirely sure that they are permanent positions. I'm sure you REALLY do not want to go through all this again, so it's better to keep your options open. |

big girls need lovin too. nope matt, I dont want to go through this again. I plan on starting up a new savings account along with my checking account when I get up there. One week's pay goes into the checking account, one goes into the savings. I figure if I don't have to go into that account too much, and something like this happens again, I will have that as a 2 or 3 month backup. |
