Thanks sidez, I'll check it out. I thought it was just something making my desktop trip, because it never did that before. But I'll look into the Desktop Wrap. Cheers! |

not to steal the thread...could lead to good insight on macbook pro. but... deker/anyone know if it's normal for my pbook G4 1.67 ghz to take a good 2-3+ minutes to save a .tif? it's 22in x 13in 16bit...but still. started slowing down, couldn't switch between programs for awhile. etc... was thinking of a macbook pro, but i've only had this bad boy for a year and half...or a year? i can't remember. i also wanted a mac pro tower w/ 23 in display...but that's expensive. as is the macbook pro. am i able to upgrade the HDD on my pbook? i only have about 5 gigs free, and the other week i was down to like 100 kb which forced me to delete a bunch of files since i couldn't run any programs. RAW takes up a lot of space. :( |

How about hooking up an external hard drive. I went to Costco the other day and saw the MyBook for $229.00 for a 500GB, then I looked on eBay and found them for less. I'm sure Deker can shed more light on this, and I don't know if you would consider this as an alternative, but I'm looking into getting something like this. Cheers! |

Yeah, if you need extra storage, get an external hard drive. Especially handy if you need more storage for RAW files, you can back them up to that external drive and place them in a different room or whatever so all your photos are safe. |

Going back to an earlier post in the thread here in regards to Adium, how is it that I can be notified of new emails when I log on, or get one. I've checked the box in the "personal" tab to look for email, set the Growl, but nothing happens. I'd also like to know if there's a way to always sign in as "invisible". Thanks!
Yes it does suck. But it's still available. But I recommend Adium. It makes neat duck sounds.
|

iChat is great, but I need to have Yahoo Messenger and MSN on there too. Is there a way to hook up these up to iChat as I already have my google account on there and AIM, but I want to add the others. Thanks! |

Adium > iChat. Come on now, seriously. What can iChat do that Adium can't? And just wait for 1.0... the beta is great.

You will have trouble getting warranty service on your Powerbook if you upgrade the hard drive. If it's out of warranty anyway, go for it. But I don't recommend trying to do it yourself. It's not very easy unless you know what you're doing. External storage would be a lot cheaper per megabyte anyway. Laptop drives are expensive and generally slower than full size drives. There is a plugin on the Growl site to notify you of new emails. I don't think it's built in. Adium is good. Unless you want to video chat. Then you can just run both until you are done video chatting. Spotlight is considerably slower than quicksilver or butler. Plus you have to type the whole name of the app, rather than say "ff" for firefox. |
