is it sad when the only thing really driving cpu and video card speeds is video games? chris
Sad? Why is that? It's always been video game technology that is pushing the envelope. If it wasn't for video games and the porn industry we might still be using slide rules or abacuses. |

they are taxing µ23, but you can do pretty much anything with current CPUs and have been able to for a while. its not like faster machines are needed to edit video or manipulate images in photoshop. and outpatient, in the past you couldn't do a lot of things like video in real-time, 3d rendering took forever, you couldn't do 3d modeling with a 3d preview in real-time, etc. that's the not the case anymore, now you can do pretty much anything on the desktop (or laptop) and games are pushing the technology. chris |

And this is a good thing...isn't it? Why do you say it's "sad"? I remember all too well how things used to be. I used to do 3D modelling using the Persistence of Vision Raytracer in DOS on my 486DX-33Mhz! And just briefly, prior to that computer I was trying to do raytracing on a Cyrix 386/40Mhz.....now you wanna talk SLOW? That was friggin' slow! ;) |

Hey Dek, should I install Virtual PC on my new G5 or skip it? I've really never heard any advantages, just bad things.

Why aren't you people talking about half life 2? OMG it is good! Virtual PC is pretty slow... I have it installed on my G5 and Powerbook to test sites, but that's all. It's too slow to do much more than that. It's certainly not going to hurt anything to install it, but if you need to test some sites it's a pretty cool little thing to have. |

Sorry dude - not talking about Half Life because I'm not a gamer. If I was, I'd only play hockey games and Baseball stars and double dribble ("DUH bul - DRIB bul") from back in the day. I'm still waiting for more good reasons to install VPC. I live in print land, and luckily, I'm not involved with our websites - yet. Guess it's in the box in case I need it. Came with MS Office v.X. (while we're not on the topic of unimpressive crapware from Microsoft.) happy gaming. |

if you don't do web sites you probably wouldn't need it unless there is some PC only app that you need to use.
