Honestly I hate Safari. I used it for a while and the login manager only allowed me to store 1 login (if I used the same login name) per domain. It seemed a tad bulky, although with the10.3.6 update it seems a bit snappier. The default text seems to render better in FireFox as well.

I just have really grown to like FF. It's fast, secure and has a ton of extensions. Just the web dev extension is reason enough to use it

I was typing a response for this about an hour ago, but adobe acrobat was opening a pdf in another tab, so that opened a new window, and byh some means or another, something went terribly awry, and firefox crashed.

Nontheless, what I had to say was pretty simple:

Firefox is more or less identical to safari. The only mammoth difference is that it's on PC as well. So it's kinda like us PC folk having our own lil' answer to safari on our frail and disease-ridden PC's

THEREFORE, I'd say there's no reason changing browsers. I mean, more or less everything's the same, down to the dragging of links onto your bookmarks bar, and everything. Now I'm sure there's some uber-nerd details that are different, but I'm not aware of them. I did have Safari when I had a mac, and asde from how you change preferences, I've noticed virtually no differences in functionality.

I'm sure that either Deker or one of the other Macists could point out the more subtle differences, or tell you why to stay with safari, or leave it for firefox.

Insofar as this particular application is concerned, the only real thing it does is allows you to mess w/ your playlist in your browser. I know that the same can be achieved by buying one of the many keyboards that have audio controls built-in, or you could get the program that deker mentioned, and that should perform even better than the foxytunes plugin does.

*edit*
Whelp, that answers that question. No need to delete the whole post though.

I use Safari just because it is the most "mac-like" browser. Firefox is great and I use it on the PC exclusively, but the Mac version is really just a port of the Windows version, you know? It doesn't have a Mac feel to it.

Also Firefox doesn't have bookmark syncing with .Mac, though you can use the bookmark sync plugin to basically do the same thing.

Firefox also doesn't support drop shadows in CSS, which is a really awesome effect if you go to any sites that use it.

The main thing that annoys me about Safari is that there is no undo in text area fields. So if you are editing a MovableType template in Safari, and make a mistake, you can't undo it like you can in Firefox. Also if you have scrolled down in a textarea, then switch to another tab and back, it returns you to the top of the scroll area. It doesn't save your place.

Fig, here's how to move your Safari Bookmarks to Firefox: http://iraszl.brinkster.net/creativebits/2004/07/time-to-try-firefox.html

I played with Camino as well. I just keep going back to Firefox. I just think things run faster and smoother. Yes, Safari is Mac's browser but Firefox is like i.e. for Mac when i.e. was the best.

The web dev extension has so many things I'll just list some of my fav's.
Search for broken images on a page- priceless when doing design work.
Validate link right from the browser- again priceless
Show CSS info/classes- will show with markers on the web page all CSS info. Great for debugging or just seeing what classes are called where.

Give it a run through, I'm sure if you use it a while you will love it. It's all I ever use anymore Mac and PC unless testing sites.

safari has a built in spellchecker because it's a real mac app. SAFARI WINS.
